Day 33 / 365 - It's elementary my dear person.

Feb 02, 2010 11:55

I suppose I should write something.  After all, why would I want to botch my daily posting plan this early in the game?

Yesterday proved to be a busy day, for sure.  I spent time chatting with a friend I hadn't really been friends with since 9th grade.  I also bumped into some people that I haven't seen in a few months.  All in all, it was a good day.  I promise you, I looked much more popular than I really am.  After all that, though, I had to wonder if I was going to run into someone else I hadn't seen in forever at the last store I had to stop at.  Thankfully I didn't.  Being social is exhausting.

I picked up a few groceries yesterday and got lucky.  I love to shop at Save-A-Lot.  For the most part they are cheap.  While there are still some great grocery deals I can pick up at places like Walmart or Meijer, they don't compare to regular ol' shopping at Save-A-Lot.  Especially when they have their coupons.  At one time, a few weeks back, they had a coupon that made it so people could buy 2 loaves of bread for only $.10 each.  I think that was the week I picked up a 10lb bag of chicken leg quarters for only $.25 per lb.  Deals people, deals.  More people should look for them, they might surprise themselves with what can be found.

The biggest thing that caught my attention was the price of eggs.  For the 2 1/2 dozen and the 18ct eggs they cost more than Walmart.  However a dozen of eggs only cost $1.10.  Here is a little cheapskate math for you.  2 dozen eggs = $2.20.  18ct carton of eggs = $2.24.  I watched the people around me aimlessly grab the 18ct carton of eggs assuming it was the cheapest option.  Math is not my strong suit but even I could see the savings.  Eh.

Oh yeah, getting lucky.  The eggs sidetracked my train of thought.  Pork roast was only $.98 per lb yesterday.  We don't make roasts often but I was able to grab a good sized chunk of roast for less than $5, so I did.  They also had a sale on small roaster chickens.  I grabbed two of those.  We don't usually buy a lot of meat (well, besides chicken) due to price so we enjoy getting it cheap when we can.  With the pork roast, we'll be cooking that up today.  I can almost taste it now.  I love it.

The best part of yesterday, though, had to be when I finally got my invite for freeallmusic.com. They allow for 5 free downloads a week. In return for the free mp3 you watch an ad. You can choose which one to watch from the list. Some people bitch about it but I think it is great. I don't mind watching an ad one bit. In turn, I get mp3's that would have cost me $.99 each at Amazon to buy. I think I can send out email invites. If anyone is interested I will take a look and see.

Not much else happened, though.  I did laundry which is an experience all on its own.  I miss owning a washer and dryer.
