Earthquake.. in Ontario?

Jun 24, 2010 02:51

Since kc724 asked, I figured I'd write something.

Yes, I did feel some tremors earlier from an earthquake that hit Ontario earlier today.

It was kind of surreal when it happened actually. I was talking to my Supervisor in her office, and I started shaking in my chair. I first thought that maybe someone in the hallway was pushing something really heavy, or someone slammed into the wall behind me. Then I thought - oh, maybe.. I'm just imagining things? Then I saw my Supervisor shaking in her chair, and her looking really confused as to why the floor was shaking beneath us. It lasted about 30ish seconds.

I was like - .. earthquake? really?

Then I thought .. well, we don't get earthquakes. Can't be an earthquake. Go out to the hallway, and everyone's panicking about whether the building's going down because we can't possibly have had an earthquake. Someone called down to the first floor (we're on the third) and they said that they didn't feel anything, and they'd like some of what we're smoking/drinking on the third floor. XD

I left the office thinking I was just imagining things or maybe some big machinery was working nearby that none of us saw.

Didn't realize till later when I was talking with a family that there was an actual earthquake, and we had felt the tremors. Very surreal. Somehow, I think my reaction wouldn't have kept me alive if something bad did happen. >.>

Haven't looked at the house thoroughly yet, but it doesn't look like we got any structural damage.

On a side note, I left my car keys at my parents after dinner earlier and didn't realize it till I got home (we were taking Loren's car). So.. then we had to drive all the way back, pick up the keys, then go home again. It's about 20-30 minutes one way, depending on traffic. Epic fail. :(

events, homeowner fail
