Phoenix Wright 2 Musical + Boys Love Cafe

Sep 15, 2009 21:08

To summarize my day off in one phrase: Pure awesomeness of seeing girls dressed as boys in two different venues.  This day started with me getting up at crack of dawn (6:30) to go wait at the Psychiatric Hospital to make sure I would be first in line so I wouldn't be late for the musical.

Oh and on my way to the musical, as I was heading into the Akasaka Sacas area I was suddenly (as well as another person walking near me) yelled at to walk to the left, and only then did I realize they were filming a drama.  (I mean it was right outside the TBS studios) So I very well might be one of the random pedestrians in a drama next season x_x.  I dunno I didn't really stop to look like others were, just walked to the left, then crossed over after they said cut to the theatre I needed to be at.  It was just hilarious.  With all the girls gaping I'm pretty sure the young guy I saw walking with a female actress was a Johnny's boy.  Now if it was one of my Hello Project girls I totally would've stopped to stare but...  It was just kinda amusing as that's the first time I've seen something being filmed/been yelled at to get out of the way of something being filmed.  Well sorry my theatre was on the other side of the narrow street you were filming in.

So I'll give a basic write up of the musical since I was asked to by a friend:

As was mentioned to me by someone (ok by the owner of the cafe I mention below) the musical was supposed to follow loosely along the storyline of after Edgeworth has returned from abroad still searching for who he is after being beaten by Phoenix.

Act 1: Act one brought in Francesca and basically had almost no Edgeworth after his introduction.  About halfway through the act we learn that Reona, yeah the girl from the first musical, has died 3 years ago.  So apparenly her and Phoenix were dating while she was inprison for forgery or ... well they didn't really explain it.  Or how she died.  Just that she died (cuz they show that in one scene) and that trial where he met her again and yet couldn't truly be with her is still haunting him, enough that he is planning on retiring from being a lawyer.  But he has goofy Maya running around the office to keep him from getting too down.  But no Larry, for some reason they left him out, probably because they had another main character with Francesca added to the mix.

So the story is that a nun at the elementary school in California where Phoenix grew up (yeah they just moved back to California probably to get away from the memories of Reona... and Phoenix apparently went to a catholic school) was caught at the scene of a crime with photos taken of her giving poison to a man to stop his heart.  Her daughter, after being told for years of Phoenix's greatness, goes to Phoenix to ask him to defend her mother.  He kinda gets dragged into it by memories brought up of depending Reona in the last trial.

Trial goes as every Phoenix Trial does, looks bad for him with Francesca beating him til he turns it around by showing the person in the photo is actually the nun's daughter's boyfriend in drag from behind.  So nun is declared not guilty but the girl storms out saying she now never wants to be a defense lawyer because her boyfriend was convicted by one.

Act 2 starts.  Maya is nowhere to be found in the office.  Phoenix gets the call saying she's been kidnapped (remember that one from the game?) Phoenix runs into Edgeworth again and lets him know.  Edgeworth had mentioned in the beginning to Phoenix that both of them would find out who they really were in this trial and mentions it again now that Phoenix tells him the deal of Maya's safe release is to get the boyfriend off on a not guilty.  Yes there are random mafia involved.  Mafia which are then never explained.

Phoenix can't decide what to do but Edgeworth offers his help in investigating.  Then the trial starts and Francesca is nowhere to be found.  We find out that she's been shot but it isn't serious, however Edgeworth has to take over the trial. Of course he doesn't want Maya hurt either, but he also doesn't want Phoenix to abandon his principles an get someone off that is really guilty.  So he pushes the interviews longer than usual, but then the girlfriend comes to a decision to testify, against her boyfriend.  At first Phoenix is stuck but he lets her do it when he's reminded by Edgeworth that the injured Francesca and reliable ole Gumshoe are on the case of tracking her down (which they do and do a great dance number of both kicking the Mafia's asses  -- mafia who conveniently have no guns but francesca has her whip in her good hand -- though Phoenix doesn't know this).

Girl testifies (Luce I think her name was) explains that although there was no poison the loan shark that was killed had medicine in a pendant he always wore around his neck for in case he had a sudden heart palpitation.  Boyfriend had seen him use it once at dinner (he was apparently the guy who conned boyfriend's dad out of money and caused his death in the past) and decided he had to get revenge.  So there was no direct attack, just he confronted the loan shark, loan shark got stressed and had a heart attack but he pulled the pendant off his neck so he couldn't take the meds.

He's declared guilty but there's still a lovey-dovey scene between him and girlfriend before he's marched off.  Only then do Phoenix and Edgeworth both realize that they don't know what's happened to Maya.  Of course just then Gumshoe and the injured Francesca come marching in with Maya safe and sound and everything has ended on on a happy note.  Most of the crew (including that annoying scoop woman Lotta Hart) march off leaving Edgey and Francesca to have a small heart to heart that fans of the pair would appreciate.
And that's the basic plot.

Now I know there was a lot more but I'm exhausted and need to head to bed so I'll try to edit this and add in more tomorrow.  I had great seats (14th row, one seat away from the aisle) so when both Edgey and Phoenix came out from one of the side entrances to do a bit of a number in the audience, they were only a few feet in front of me.  And god are they gorgeous.  Even if new Edgey forces her voice to be extra low, so it sounds a bit off.

After the musical I headed over to my favorite spot in Tokyo, Ikebukuro.  And why Ikebukuro?  Why to see my cute "boys" who are really girls, of course!  Though because they're running a special event this week I couldn't sit at the counter where I'd be able to chat more frequently.  The event was part of the reason I wanted to go and why I got up so damn ass early to go to my clinic instead of just going after the musical.  So the event this week is Hetalia Days.  So all the "boys" are cosplaying Hetalia characters.  I unfortunately only saw three of them, one being the owner who I'm always chatting with, because I wanted to go home early as I was tired.  I'm not too familiar with Hetalia but the costumes were great.  And they had special food, drinks and pictures that I of course bought.  I had the German Plate which consisted of german potatoes, sausages, and soup.  It was very yummy.

Then I went and spent/wasted 1000 yen on medal games in an arcade before having a light meal and coming home.  Overall a nihce day off.
