Same as it ever was... [narrative] [tuesday morning]

Oct 13, 2008 17:44

It was a cold morning, and it was chilly in her room. No gas for heat. Angela threw on some clothing and shoved her hair in a rough ponytail and thanked God for gym class second period. At least she would be able to take a shower afterwards.

The living room was moderately warmer and that's where her father was. "Dad," she called, poking him. "Dad, wake up, you're going to be late for school."

"Leeme'lone."

These weekend benders are going to be the death of me, Angela thought. "Dad, you've got to go to school today. And did you forget to pay the oil bill this month?" It's the only one that Angela can't touch, and that her father has to pay himself.

He gripped her arm hard and pushed her away. "Stop nagging me."

She stumbled backward and hit her shins on the coffee table. Luckily, she stayed on her feet. "Ow." She said it softly so he wouldn't hear her, rubbing her forearm. She backed away slowly and carefully, gathered her things, and went to school. There was nothing else she could do.
