So, we got back from Denver, and A was coughing a bit and having a mild chest cold. They suck, but what can you do? My first weekend back at work, I start feeling the little twinge at the back of my throat, signifying a nice sinus drainage. The next day, I'm clogged and feeling all muzzy. I go in to work, anyway, because it's not all that bad, but by the end of the day, I've already told my charge nurse that I'll be calling in sick the next day.
The next day, I was wishing for some Propofol and an ET tube. At that point, they could wake me when it was over. I was absolutely miserable for the entire day, and spent the day watching CSI Season One on DVD. A put up with it because I was sick.
It gave me a few days to recover, and as of today, I've got a slight runny nose and a cough, but I feel generally okay, just a little tired.
As I've probably mentioned before, I've been getting really into Geocaching. When I got back into it, I took a run around Medford to pick up traveling items to take back to Denver with me, and I ran across these cool things called "Geocoins." Well, went to Colorado and hung out with a friend from high school, and his dad who works for Groundspeak gave me three of them. He gave me a 2005 volunteer coin, a 2008 volunteer coin, and a Groundspeak Lackeys 2007 coin. The volunteer coins are somewhat common, as they are usually given to volunteer reviewers at the site. The Lackeys geocoin is remarkably rare. It's only handed out by Groundspeak employees, of which there are only 26. The nearest one that I can find is 500 miles north from me. The coin designs are cool, and I just can't bring myself to put them out there where they might get lost or stolen.
So, I decided that I'd collect the things. I decided that when I started getting my own coins, I'd always get 2 of whichever one I wanted, that way I could keep one and send the other out. My first order just showed up today.
I got the EMT geocoin:
Which I've sent out with the mission to collect pics and stories from emergency responders,
The USAF geocoin:
Which I've sent out in rememberance of my friend James "Eagle" Evans, who was a Colonel in the CO ANG,
And, of course, the USMC geocoin:
Which I've sent out to collect pictures of Marines.
My next one is going to be the Saturn Geocoin:
which was minted in honor of the Cassini spacecraft. See some of it's incredible images at
The Big Picture blog, like this one:
only bigger!
Anyway, just thought I'd share some of my mailbox joy today.
Tomorrow, I get to do the desk jockey thing for a few days, and hopefully, by the end of the day on Sunday, I'll be well enough for a hike. I'd really like to hit the caches on Roxy Ann this coming weekend, but I may not be able do due to the weather. We'll see what the weekend brings. We're supposed to have snow tonight. *crosses fingers* Last I heard we were at 20% snow pack this year. That's really bad for our farmers and orchards out here, so I really hope we get some more.
Good night my wolflings!
