Sometimes I'm truly impressed at the inefficience and modus operandi of the people in this world.

Take this for example. This morning there was a huge fire in the biggest supermarket in Paraguay. And the owner/manager decided to close the doors to stop the people from running away without paying for the things they were buying. It was a bloody fire and he was worrying that he'd lose money. Result? More than 340 people died. Over 100 more than in the terrorist attack in Madrid in March.

Another example? Last Tuesday a fired employee entered in the Chilean's Embassy in Costa Rica and shot three people (one of them was a friend of my parents). Then he shot himself. Seven other people were locked in a room. It took seven hours for the authorities to deciced to get in the Embassy even when a long time had passed since they had heard of the man. Even when the people locked in the room were calling over cell phone and saying they hadn't heard him. Seven hours!! Needless to say, the three people who were shot were dead when they finally decided to do something.

You can't help but wonder how many disasters could be avoided.
