" My name is Andrea Walker. Every year, the annual death toll for starvation is more than the South Asia tsunami and Hurricanne Katrina combined. Every 3 seconds a child dies from hunger. That means that everytime you take a breath, a child suffering from starvation takes their last. Fortunately, there are things we can do to help end this preventable pandemic. I'm participating in a fundraiser by World Vision called 30 Hour Famine. I will be abstaining from food for 30 hours and I have people willing to sponser me for every hour that I don't eat. For $360, or a dollar a day, we can feed a person for an entire year. Would you be interesting in supporting this organization?"
That's my new sales pitch. Apparently, my old one wasn't working.
I haven't been getting a lot of support for this fundraiser. I feel awful. I am not only appalled-but disgusted by the average person's indifference to dying people. One person had said that it's good that people in 3rd world countries are dying at such high numbers because the world is overpopulated. I'm shocked! I just don't understand how people could see the strain on the world that hunger has caused and be not only okay with it-but look at it as a blessing! These aren't deer who's numbers should be "thinned out" these are living breathing feeling human beings! When did society become so devoid of morals? I just don't understand, how could some one lack a sense of right and wrong? I've also gotten comments such as "well then they should eat each other" and "if they started harvesting human meat in Africa, I'd try it." It's getting harder to tolerate such ignorance, but then again, I would take this too seriously because I turn everything into a socail politic's issue. Right?
I'm not trying to make myself look like a saint, I'm just worn out. How in the world do you spell coffe.
