So i finally finished watching the goddamn drama. I don't think it's fair to compare stuff now since the manga scanlations haven't reached the end yet, but still. I'm going by what I already know.
So. The drama. WHY THE HELL ARE THERE SO MANY CRYING SCENES???? At about halfway point in the series, there's at least ONE crying scene per episode. It's like, WHY???? Even granny Jin Dao, who's supposed to be this tough-ass Spartan cooking trainer-slash-gourmand cried quite a few times. I don't know what they're trying to get at here. It stopped being dramatic and turned into annoying, especially since they don't seem to fit the character's personality that I have seen previously. There are other ways to express anger and despair than crying you know. STOP CRYING AND DO SOMETHING ELSE.
About the characters, I feel a bit bad comparing it to the manga constantly, but hey. It's an adaptation. Of course I would compare it as someone who likes the original series.
I don't get how they're trying to characterize Zhi Tian in the drama. He's more ... emotional than Oda is. Oda is cool-headed. He yells quite a lot early in the series, but generally he's cold and stiff. Zhi Tian is more temperamental and emotional. I daresay THAT'S what Chiyo/Jin Dao is supposed to be acting like.
And the drama seems to be shoving the pairing in our faces so much so that I already know that the heroine will get the guy, cliche and knowing the manga aside.
I have to say I like Gao Qiao's face more than Takahashi. Takahashi is your "cliche pretty dream-boy" with a hairdo that I don't agree with. Character-wise.... well, Gao Qiao seemed to get shoved to the side in later parts of the series and I stopped caring about his character. Aiyah~ a lot of stuff just get dropped into oblivion near the drama series' end and is unresolved. Not even cop-out off-screen resolution. They just disappeared, period. Like whatever happened to the poor family that Xiao Qiang likes to visit? If they're not important, why kick a big fuss over that situation? And the what about Gao Qiao and his girlfriend? Did she wake up? No? Where was he in the epic reunion-slash-random-wedding scene? he wasn't in the group that Jin Dao brought...
So. The early episodes of the drama was a fun watch, but the later episodes suck.
