Some parts of Patchwork Earth were back to normal, some were still in stages of repair. There was a massive amount of work to be done, overall, or so it seemed to Rei. She had spent a little while helping out with the effort to prove medical attention to those who needed it, but she soon realized that she was getting in the way more often than she was helping anyone. She needed some time, to take a break from the war aftermath.
She found her way, somehow, to a beautiful park. She didn't know it, but it was the same part that Delight used to relax in before. Rei picked her way through the fountains and ponds, marveling at the beauty of it all. A few rabbits sniffed at her as she passed.
Finally coming to rest on a bench off from one of the winding paths, Rei leaned over, resting her head in her hands. She watched the ducks swimming around a pond nearby, quietly mulling over her thoughts
She was a computer, but a very complex one. She had emotions, feelings, and she couldn't override them even if she had wanted to. She was built to mimic a human in nearly every way...a true marvel of technology, in her own world. Here, though, there were all kinds of marvels, so she didn't stand out much among them.
She picked up a leaf from the bench and twirled it in her fingers. What was it, exactly, about everything that was bothering her?
She could easily pinpoint the problem by going into stand-by mode and doing a self-scan, but for some reason, she didn't want to do that.
Silly things sometimes, emotions, she thought with a distant smile.
