So, my first day of art college was nice. I had English 2 in the morning; the professor's syllabus sounds like it's going to be a fun year of reading novels and going to plays and even a Green Day musical based on American Idiot. Plus, the professor is originally from Allentown, just like me! He even said that he lived really close to EHS, but he went to Central Catholic. It's such a strange and funny coincidence...
Then I had a 5 hour break until my next class, 2D Visual Dynamics. It's been a while since I've had to think like a designer about composition and text placement and such, so it's probably a good thing I'm taking this. We're working on a project where we have a set of words, and we must repeat them 6 times each in a unique and creative design. I don't really know what I want the end version to look like, so right now it kinda looks crappy. But eventually I'll get it decent looking... key word is "eventually".
When I was walking back to my dorm holding it, I had a funny feeling like I was back in kindergarten showing my mom my scribble of the day...
I think so far, art college isn't so different than normal universities. There are still syllabuses given, and there are still books to buy (CCA doesn't have an official bookstore, but used books on Amazon are decent, and the copy shop they use for readers is right across campus). And overall, there's that same "you're free to do whatever you want, so long as you attend classes and get good grades" vibe, except a little more relaxed because we're in California. I suppose some differences is the length of classes, and that there is a list of art supplies attached to each syllabus. Many of the supplies overlap, but I can tell that I'll be visiting Dick Blick a lot (it's located one block from campus; what an strategic location).
I'm a dummy; I forgot to bring my drawing board with me when I moved into the dorms. And some large drawing paper that I have leftover from last semester's drawing class. I'm going back home on Labor Day weekend, so I'll have to remember to bring them with me.
