It's all ready the third week of school. Classes are all interesting, but also all demanding in the usual "we operate under the assumption that you have no other classes, so we're dumping lots of work on you" fashion. But I'm doing my best to work hard this semester and not slack off, so it's going okay so far. But as my journal title indicates, I'm le tired...
Also, I felt like posting up this little thought after watching the season premiere of Glee. I admit that Glee is a cheesy show filled with over-dramatizations and cliches, but I still like the singing that they do. But this season premiere just kinda made me feel... a bit ticked off. Hasn't it been proven over and over that cutting funding for the arts in public schools is a negative thing? Why is it then that Sue Sylvester's anti-arts platform is so popular?
Also, the big thing is that Rachel and Kurt attend some college preview event and see how similar the students are to them and how talented they are, and get discouraged by it. Sure, they eventually pep talk themselves into feeling better, but it just bothers me that they feel so discouraged in the first place. I admit, I felt something a little similar when I first started going to CCA. I've even heard similar stories from some of my friends and classmates- "I was the best artist at my school, but then I came here, and suddenly I was just another pretty talented kid." But I was never the number one artist in school- there were quite a few others who were better than me, and I was fine with that. So it didn't take me long to get over that, and I just did the best that I could. And two years later, I'm still not number one, but that doesn't really matter now, because we're just all students who are honing our talents as best as we can.
To sort of see what I'm talking about, I recommend watching Art School Confidential- the movie is pretty much a guy who dreams of going to art school only to struggle because he's suddenly surround by other very talented people. It's also got art school cliches, which are covered in a funny satirical way. My only problem with the movie is that the other students don't accept his art, even though it's very nice in a traditional classical way. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
