What to do now...
Even though Fanime's over, I still feel a restless desire to make cosplay. In part, it's just an extension of my creativity that always wants an outlet to express itself, usually via drawings or something.
I find myself adding more characters to my already long list of future cosplays. It would be satisfying if I could complete them all. Some of them would be easy to make, like if there are multiple characters from the same series, and I would need to make only 1 outfit (a seifuku, a Shinigami uniform, etc) and use different accessories for different characters. But some of the characters are from series that I watched in high school, so I'm not as enthusiastic to cosplay them now as I was back then (I have a lot of Bleach characters on the list, but it would feel cheap to cosplay Bleach now that it's so mainstreamed. The only exception would be my Rukia cosplay- she was my first cosplay, so it has sentimental value to me. Plus, I still haven't done a photoshoot with the Sode no Shirayuki sword I bought at last year's Fanime, and I'd love to do one with a good photographer in an appropriate setting). Even with characters from current series, I like to feel excited about the series while I make the cosplay- it adds to the anticipation of displaying it for the first time.
Also, I have a notion to re-make all of my crappily sewn cosplays that I did in high school, or at least fix the wrong parts until they look better. But that would take time away from new/current cosplays, so this is probably something that I'd do when I'm bored and in-between anime series to watch.
Anyway, so far the only cosplay I'm definitely working on this summer is Ropponmatsu #2 from Excel Saga. I'm doing it with a cosplaying friend Robbie/Eliteslayer who wants to be Professor Shiouji, the lolicon scientist who created Ropponmatsu. I will probably get a wig commissioned for it, and then sew the outfit myself- I've never tried dying a wig before, let alone making it two-toned pink and purple. I'd like to finish it by July when we'll both be attending a cosplay gathering that Dana/Foxberry hosts every month.
