As always, I don't own anyone, none of this is real, blah blah blah, you know the drill.
“Oh. My. God. I will kill both of you with my bare hands. Where the HELL have you been?!”
“Hi Matty, we love you too.”
“Matt, stop being such a drama queen, where is everyone?”
“In the back lounge playing X-Box.... Don’t you walk away from me, I’m not finished with you two yet!” Jack and I stopped walking as we hit the doorway to the bunks.
“Well, are you coming or not?”
“We’ve got an announcement that we want everyone to hear at the same time.” Matt had the entire band and crew assembled in the back lounge within about forty seconds. He must be really pissed at us.
“We have an announcement to make.”
“Mmhmm sure you do.”
“You’re blocking our game.”
“Jack, move your skinny ass outta the way, I can’t see.”
“Jack and I are married.” Dead silence. Well, except for whatever game they were playing on the X-Box that was now in the process of killing off both Jeff’s and Alex’s characters.
“WHAT?!” seemed to be the collective reaction.
“Jack and I are married, see?” I held up my hand and Jack held up his, showing off our shiny new wedding rings.
“You two are never to leave the bus without supervision again. EVER. Married? Really?” The bus descended into an unruly yelling of questions at us. Jack yelled above them all.
“Can’t you at least be happy for us first and ask questions later? Jesus, I thought we were family.” He stormed out, leaving the back lounge and myself in a stunned silence.
“I... I think you guys hit a sore spot. I knew that you guys would be mad that we didn’t include you, but I don’t think he quite expected that reaction. I love him, and he loves me, and he gets so upset when I have to leave, so why shouldn’t we get married? Now I don’t have to leave. That was as far as our reasoning had gotten. Any further questions can wait until later, I gotta go make sure he’s alright. Sorry about your game guys.”
I walked down the bus to find him in the front lounge.
“You okay?” Jack was practically shaking with anger.
“I can’t leave the bus without supervision or Matt will get fired.”
“Come on, let’s go for a walk and cool off, okay?”Jack held his hand out for me to take, and I followed him off the bus, holding onto his hand.
---
We couldn’t go very far without the fans seeing us, halfway around the venue and then either continue inside, or go back to the bus, but it was far enough that Jack had cooled down from a screaming rage into an aggravated frustration.
“I just don’t understand why they weren’t happy for us!”
“Jacky, it was a lot to take in, especially considering we’d never talked about it before.”
“Yeah, but we’re family, they should’ve been happy first, then asking questions.”
“Honey, think about. What would you do if Zack had done this? Hmm?” I avoided using Alex and Rian as examples, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for either of them to do something overly romantic like we had just done, but it would be as out of character for Zack as it was for Jack.
“Okay, I kinda see your point, but still.”
“They had no warning Jacky. I kinda expected them to be like that. I hoped they wouldn’t be, but I did kinda expect it. You’re all highly protective of one another, all joking aside.”
“I know, I guess I forgot about that side of us considering you’ve been around so long that I consider you a part of the family.”
“Thanks Jacky. They’ll come around eventually honey, you just have to give them time to adjust.”
---
By the time we got back to the bus area, we could hear that an argument had broken out on one of the buses. By the time we reached our bus, we’d worked out that it was on our bus and it was about us. By the time we’d gotten inside, we had worked out who was yelling at whom, and exactly what about us they were yelling about (although, admittedly, it wasn’t that hard to guess). What was surprising though, was that it was Matt AND Rian against Alex. And Alex was arguing against, not for.
“I’ll kill him.”
“Jack...” Not if I get there first you won’t.
“What? He has the guts to yell about us behind our backs but not to our faces?”
“I was just going to say, hear him out first.”
“Oh.”
---
“ALEX. Jack is a grown man, you have to let him make his own decisions, or mistakes as you may see them.” They must have been yelling the whole time we were gone, Rian was red in the face.
“But he was MINE before he was HERS.”
“Alex.” Matt sounded completely heartbroken.
“NO. He’s MINE, and I won’t stop until I have him.” I stepped in at this point. Matt looked like he was on the verge of tears and Rian looked like he was about to kill something, possibly Alex.
“Alex. I think that’s enough for today, don’t you?” He didn’t even have the decency to look ashamed that we’d caught him fighting about us. He just muttered a “Whatever bitch.” as he slipped past a freshly furious Jack and
myself. Jack started to follow, looking murderous, but I grabbed his arm to stop him.
“What?” He looked confused as to why I was stopping him.
“I’ll do it.”
“But... why? After all that stuff?”
“Because I’m not angry enough to say something I’ll regret later. Stay here. Look after Matt.” Matt had collapsed into tears after Alex had left.
“Are you sure you’ll be okay? Alex can get pretty nasty when he’s upset like this.”
“I know. I can too though, remember that.”
