The problem with season 5 is, from what I've heard (so take this with a grain of salt), that the original plot which was supposed to span a whole 5 seasons got truncated into four when the show was under the threat of being axed at the end of season 4. The problem is it got approved for the fifth season but the main plot had already been sewn up, so season 5 is... questionable at best.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that... hence why we got Byron. But some of the eps in the second half of the season are so glorious that I can forgive Byron. Mostly. This time through the show I managed to get through Byron mainly by half-ignoring him and focusing solely on the few glorious Londo-G'Kar scenes spread throughout those eps. And fastforwarding through the singing. (I actually loved Byron when I was 13, lol. I suspect I just thought he was cute. I grew out of it.)
Yeah, season 5 feels that way to a lot of people... it does pick up in the second half of the season, though. Ivanova leaving sucked and was purely a behind the scenes thing (long story, and frankly no one really knows to this day the full details except for JMS and Claudia...). And when I first watched it at age 13 she and Marcus were my favourite characters, so losing them both in one blow was awful. But some of my favourite Londo-G'kar interactions of the series are in season 5 which makes everything else much more bearable.
Also, the ep written by Neil Gaiman. :) Only ep in 3 seasons not written by JMS.
I like Lochley ok, but never really had strong feelings about her.
I do love the season 5 opening a hell of a lot, though. :)
My favorite part of the season 5 opening I hearing Kosh day "Z'ha'dum" every time. I don't know why but I just love the way it sounds. My favorite openings are season 3 and 4, though.
Also, episode written by Neil Gaiman???? Which one? Ill look it up when I get home if you do t answer soon, bu wow, I had no idea he wrote for this too.
Also Byron bugs me a lot. I have a lot I sympathy for the rogue telepaths because I like Leta, but every scene with Byron is just boring. I'm happy Leta found a place, but I almost feel like this is bad for her somehow. No spoilers on that, tho. As far as I know I could just be hating him irrationally lol.
Love the s3 and 4 openings too, yeah. I like the epic feel of the s5 opening, though - how it sums up the first 4 seasons so nicely.
Neil Gaiman wrote Day of the Dead. :) And I'm not sure how the Penn and Teller cameo in that ep came about, but tbh when I first watched it when I was 13 I had no idea who they were (and I still haven't actually seen their real show) so I never minded. I guess they were fans? Not sure...
Oh don't worry, no one likes Byron. :) Well, some people might (including my 13-yr-old self lol), but most people don't. He's just annoying...
Yeah...Due to the weird 4th season hurry-and-tie-up-the-loose-ends thing (as the first poster said) I only usually re-watch seasons 1-4, then move on to "Crusade". The other posters are all correct though, about all the good G'kar and Lando scenes. As to the bizzarro Penn and Teller thing, I always put it down to them being fans, who wanted a cameo...at least I hope that was the explanation!
Hahaha it was just so WEIRD. I mean I like Penn & Teller. I watched them perform in Vegas (Teller spoke to me! He has a voice!). And I've seen most of the episodes of Bullshit before they ran out of topics to pick apart, but this just seemed shoehorned in. The episode was actually really good except for their super awkward cameo. IT WAS JUST SO AWKWARD

You must post your reactions to the final episodes, though. Are you totally unspoiled?
