(no subject)
I'm seeing a lot of posts on Tumblr getting angry at the Sherlock fandom for "ruining" the Hobbit or Star Trek fandoms right now and I'm just like... what? I'm going to speak from a personal point of view right now, so this might not be applicable to everyone, but still... I have feelings on the matter.
Now I'm probably not going to see The Hobbit in theaters. I wasn't a really big fan of the first LOTR movies (sorry guys) nor am I that big of fan of Martin Freeman (sorry again), but I'll probably eventually see it when it comes out on DVD. And even then I'll probably be seeing it mainly because Benedict Cumberbatch does a voice in it. If it weren't for him, I'd probably pass.
However, I AM super excited about Star Trek. And a large portion of that excitment is because of Benedict Cumberbatch. I loved the first Star Trek movie. It was great. I saw it in theatres twice. I haven't seen any of the old Star Trek though, so that, right there, means I'm not a Trekkie, I suppose, which I'm totally fine with. I'm in a tougher financial situation right now than I was when that movie came out, though, so I would PROBABLY be waiting for it to come out on DVD to see it, too, but... Benedict Cumberbatch is very prominent in it so FUCK YEAH I am going to pay money to see him on the big screen.
So I guess I'm really more of a "Cumberbitch" than part of "Sherlock fandom" (sorry Martin Freeman fans, he's great, but not great enough for me to spend $10 on a movie ticket), but I don't see anything wrong with that? What the problem with going and seeing a movie because an actor you love is in it? I don't understand why that's something to be upset about? It's still going to add money to the overall ticket sales, which will show the studios that this franchise is something worth continuing. I'm not sure how big of an impact Benedict Cumberbatch will have on ticket sales, but every little bit helps.
I just don't understand this controvery. It reminds me too much of the "fake geek girl" thing and you know I have strong feelings about that too.
This is just a silly controvery. Let people enjoy movies for whatever reason they want to enjoy them. Jeez.
