Summary: This is part of my Don’t Ever Change series.  Dean continues developing his relationship with Cas despite having “Kill a Whore” on the to-do list.

A/N: Started writing this as it's own thing, then I watched 5x18 and realized how incredibly angsty it was, so now it's a three parter.

Don't Ever Change Master Post

He didn’t realize Cas would go ‘on a bender’ so soon after their little conversation.  He understood his feelings all too well, though.  He’d been there himself many times so it naturally became his responsibility to teach the angel how to recover from a hangover.   Somehow his gift of aspirin led to a heart to heart and he found himself lingering in the motel parking lot trying to teach the angel healthier coping mechanisms.

“How do you manage?”

“On a good day you get to kill a Whore.”  So ‘healthy’ was a relative term for the Winchesters.  But you have to admit, focusing your anger and frustrations into killing baddies was a lot more productive than draining a liquor store dry.

Castiel gave a soft smile before dropping his head and rubbing his temples again.

“I should probably get you some water too.”

“I don’t believe I need water to swallow these pills, Dean.”

“Yeah, probably not, but you’ll be in a lot more pain tomorrow if you don’t stay hydrated.  You drank a liquor store, Cas.”

“Hydration,” the angel sighed.  “It hadn’t even occurred to me.”

He popped open the bottle and swallowed a handful of pills.  Lifting his head so fast to knock them back caused another pulse of pain through his skull.  He groaned and lifted his fingers to massage his temples again, but Dean beat him to it.  He hadn’t even noticed that his hunter and moved from his spot by the Impala.  If his headache was bad enough to distract him from his surroundings he knew he was in trouble.

Dean had maneuvered himself just behind the bench and Castiel took it as an opportunity to lean back against him and relax.  Dean’s fingers rubbed gently along his temples, soothing away the dull ache that was pounding away in his head.  Castiel closed his eyes and gave himself over to Dean’s touch.

The hunter moved his hands down to Castiel’s shoulders and began kneading the muscles in his upper back with his thumbs. This action elicited a pleased, but slightly startled moan from Castiel.

“What is it that you’re doing?”

“You’ve never heard of a massage before, Cas?  If you’re going to start feeling pain you should get familiar with them.  It’s great for soar muscles and stuff.”  He thought about that for a moment.  “I can teach you how to give them, too.  I certainly don’t mind being on the receiving end.”

The angel’s eyes fluttered open and he saw Dean smirking down at him.  He wasn’t exactly sure why the hunter thought it was amusing, but Cas was grateful to be invited to participate in another important human ritual.  This seemed much more intimate than having drinks together and he felt honored to be given the chance.

Dean leaned down and gently kissed Castiel’s forehead.  When he straightened back up he realized what a vulnerable position they were in.  He took a quick survey of their surroundings.  Not only were they in a very open and very public place, but the town was also filled with religious fanatics who were hanging on that damn Whore’s every word. This was obviously not a safe place for even hinting at any sort of gay relationship, even though he was pretty sure they were on the townspeople’s shitlist already.

Cas lifted his hand up and caressed the hunter’s cheek.  This brought Dean’s attention back down to him.  “I understand something now.”

“And what’s that?”

“What I’m feeling,” he said as their eyes locked again. “I love you, Dean Winchester.”

Dean’s breath hitched and his thumbs stopped their circular motions on Castiel’s back.  He let the joy he felt wash over his face and it must have been contagious because Cas was suddenly smiling too.  “I love you too, Cas.”  He felt like he was on the verge of breaking down and crying right then and there, but he had to keep his head in the game.

But he was committed to teaching the angel about emotions, so he leaned down and kissed Cas.  Their upside down crashing of lips was rather successful given their awkward angle.  Dean felt the same angelic heat he felt the first time they kissed, though it wasn’t nearly as strong.  He supposed that made sense, considering Cas was more human now than he was then.    But the heat of passion was even stronger this time and he wanted nothing more than take Cas back to one of the rooms and have his way with him.  This was the first time in Dean’s life where a Whore actually got in the way of sex and he laughed a little at the irony.

Dean broke the kiss and straightened up.  When their met again all of their troubles were momentarily forgotten.  There was no Michael or Lucifer, no apocalypse or Whore of Babylon.  It was just them and this bench and reality didn’t exist beyond that.

But the illusion didn’t last long and the weight of reality began pressing on both of their shoulders.  Castiel rose to his feet and moved to stand directly in front of his hunter.  He put one hand on the back of Dean’s neck to pull him close and grabbed Dean’s arm roughly with the other.  Castiel kissed him so aggressively that Dean was sure his lips would be bruised.

For once it was the angel who explored the hunter’s mouth, but the intrusion was too brief for the human to really react to the situation.  Castiel ended the kiss, but remained only an inch away.  Dean could still feel his breath on his lips.  Cas spoke softly, but forcefully.  “Let’s go kill the Whore.”

The angel released him and pulled away.  Dean hadn’t even realized he had clutched onto Cas' coat until he had stepped out of his reach.  Dean took a deep breath, hoping it’d be enough to get his head back in the game, and followed his angel.  Together they retreated back to the motel room to join Sam and Father Gideon.
