12/07/08 17:08: The beast escaped on Friday. Completely destroyed the welding on its cage and bent the bars at every angle. It was subdued and a new cage was acquired. This one is plastic. No bars to bend. No welding to fail. Hopefully the beast doesn't chew straight through it.
12/08/08 23:32: I took it along on the expedition. It found others of its kind and exhausted itself running with them. This gave my partner a rest but we haven't tested the new cage yet. We'll have to tomorrow...and pray.
12/09/08 18:37: It worked! The plastic cage held and the beast was contained. The trail by fire lasted nearly 3 hours and not only was the cage not destroyed, only a small portion is bent and only barely. Things within the cage did not fair as well however. The beast's food bowl is all but destroyed and the inside walls were slick what we can only assume is saliva as it does not have the odor of urine. I'm somewhat concerned about the beast. The front legs were soaked as well and there is a small red mark on the side of the nose as if it was used hard against the bars of the door. Psychologically the beast needed reassurance and a soothing voice before it would calm down after its release. Despite all that and my concern, the beast is now sleeping calmly and is not even insisting on being in physical contact with me. I believe it will adjust as it becomes accustomed to the new cage...and resigned to the fact that it cannot escape this one without assistance. I just hope the cage continues to withstand its occupant and that the no further injury is caused for the beast will not give up quickly.
