*sigh* So I realize that everyone is pretty much OMGWTFBBQ about the Bones finale, but I gotta say...I'm surprisingly okay with it. Even more, I sorta saw it coming months ago.
First, allow me to get the Zack stuff out of the way. No, it wasn't handled with the utmost subtlety, but I blame a lot of that on the truncated season. Frankly, Zack's character hasn't been the same since his return from Iraq, and while I think this is something that would have been addressed if they'd had more episodes to play with, it was always there in the back of my mind. Where I once found Zack quirky and charming, this year I mostly found him off-putting and creepy. Of all the squints, he never seemed to have that "human" connection, and thus it makes a certain sense to me that he would use logic in order to justify such horrific actions. While I found the scene of him and Brennan in the hospital absolutely, positively heartbreaking, I can't honestly say that I'll miss his character all that much.
Meanwhile, onto the buttload of other stuff that was crammed into the episode. I really wish that we could have had an entire episode of dealing with the aftermath of Booth's shooting and faked death. It provided a lot of interesting insight into the B/B relationship. While Brennan was perfectly willing to accept the professional rationale of Sweets not telling her he was alive, it spoke volumes that she continued to attack Booth for not telling her. They're partners, and friends, and she trusts him enough to believe that he should tell her everything. I also loved her calling out Sweets for his experiments, because I firmly believe that's exactly what it was--a test to see how Brennan would react.
Of course, the bathroom scene was adorable and hysterical. I give Brennan credit for the fact that her eyes never seemed to drop from his face. Sure, I'm guessing she saw everything, but at least she didn't stare. :) Not that you could've blamed her.
TJ Thyne has pretty, pretty eyes. Just wanted to get that in there before I forgot.
There were other lovely Booth/Brennan moments interspersed throughout the episode--Booth's admonition to Sweets that Brennan can't be rushed; the look on his face as he watched her running down the logic with Zach; and of course, the lovely ending, when he gave her the support that she needed. Not only was he a literal shoulder for her to lean on, he presented her with empirical evidence that she had, in fact, given something to Zack. In her way, I think Brennan would appreciate that more than anything.
In other news, I absolutely loved the Gossip Girl finale.
While I continue to not care at all about Serena/Dan, I loved most of the other relationship interactions. Rufus/Lily for the win, although I cannot fathom her marrying Bart. I loved beyond reason the reconciliation between Nate and Chuck; their friendship transcends the problems they've had. I like the setup for the potential Nate/Serena and Dan/Vanessa hook-ups as well. Although can someone please tell me when exactly Nate grew a personality and became awesome?
The Dan/Blair 'shipper in me loved their collusion in taking down Georgina Sparks. I have to say I'm not thrilled at the prospect of Michelle Trachtenburg being a regular next season. Enh.
And then, of course, there was the Chuck/Blair. I admit it, I clapped and squealed like the proverbial fangirl during their dance at the wedding. How far we've come since the pilot! That said, I cringed a bit at just *how* schmoopy Chuck was getting. Although I hate that Blair is going to be hurt by this, the truth is that if they ever manage to have a real relationship, I don't want it to be because he's suddenly become some hearts and flowers prince among men. I want her to fall for him in spite of his flaws. There's a part of me that wonders, as I mentioned to
monimala tonight, if Chuck/Blair was even in the cards when the show began, or if the absolutely explosive chemistry between Ed and Leighton has led the writers down this path. Much the same way that I don't think Pacey/Joey was the endgame when DC started.
Finally, the less Little J, the better.
Also watched the OTH finale... 1) Shut up, Peyton. 2) Shut up, Lucas. 3) I vote Brooke/Dr. Hottie. 4) Haley-Nathan-Jamie-Quentin for the effing WIN. Love them. That is all Oh! Except that the thing with Dan was AWESOME and the ending with Lucas was 27 kinds of lame.
