Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose

Towards the end of last season, I got behind on several shows, including Friday Night Lights. Even though the last five episodes have been sitting on my TiVo all summer, I never bothered to watch them until tonight. I'm not sure what I was waiting for; maybe I needed to be in the right frame of mind. Whatever.

I marathoned those last five episodes this evening, laughing and screaming and crying as I watched. Even though I knew a lot about how things were going to turn out, somehow that didn't lessen the emotional impact. There is a beauty about this show that just amazes me. I've compared it to Everwood before, and I'll do it again. These characters are so real, so flawed, so fantastic. The cast is remarkable (aside from Minka Kelly, whom I still find insufferably annoying as Lyla Garrity). After watching last night's Emmy...quagmire...the omission of Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler seems even more egregious.

I don't know what season two holds for the Dillon Panthers. I'm not even sure if some of them have graduated. I'm just so incredibly grateful that we get the chance to see it.
