The creators of Supernatural are clearly taunting us: we finally get a glimpse of shirtless Jensen, but shrouded in shadows and in the context of morphing into something else. How could they take something so inherently hot and make it utterly gross?
That said, I enjoyed the episode. There was so much hype before the series premiered that it was so scary, but it really doesn't freak me out at all. Maybe I've been desensitized by all those years of The X-Files, or maybe it's just that, with only two people in the opening credits, I have absolutely no fear that one of them will be killed off.
*The opening, with the girl all bloody, was sufficiently creepy, but I just felt like showing "Dean" blew a lot of the suspense for the rest of the episode. It was just a matter of waiting for the shapeshifter to take his form.
*I did get the impression that Jensen had fun with the part, with all the comments about the perks of being Dean. Very cute. :)
*I liked that Sam had actual friends, and that Rebecca was able to accept the reality of what he does. I wouldn't mind the guys encountering other people they know once in a while, instead of just helping strangers.
*I love that the music on this show is mainly rock classics with a harder edge. The modern pop-rock that fuels such shows as One Tree Hill, The O.C., and Veronica Mars wouldn't work here.
*I expected more of a confrontation between Sam and Dean after some of the things the shapeshifter said. Even though it technically wasn't Dean saying them, I guess I thought Sam might need some reassurance that Dean doesn't resent him.
*The previews for next week actually made me jump. While I don't worry too much about shapeshifters, or demonic possession, the hook-handed man? Is fucking creepy.
I have an idea for a new Veronica Mars fic rattling around in my head. Too bad I have no inspiration for Unholy Alliance, The Dish, the Spoon, and the Fork in the Road, or Plato Isn't the Name of a Modeling Clay. Gah. My muse sucks.
