Well, you've all seen me essentially fangasm over Mark Waid's re-introduction of the Challengers of the Unknown in "The Brave and the Bold." I grew up on funny comics and ancient stuff from my parent's comic book bin and Challengers was a piece of that gold. My sadness is I doubt I'll ever have my fill of them and I doubt that their minor character status will allow me to see my favorite character again, because he was a minor character of their book.
However, I'm home now. My inherited Challs collection is before me. This allows me to scan a few pages and try to leach out some of the old yellow-paged look with photoshop. I hope you guys check out the little peak...
Rocky Davis and Prof Haley. Prof isn't a super-boastful person or anything, but he's not gonna let anything short of an emergency interrupt him in the middle of a good book. Rocky, the sweetheart, is a lot like Ben Grim in personality. Which makes sense, 'cause these dudes are essentially the precursors/blueprint of the Fantastic Four.
Here we briefly meet Ace, the leader-man. As his name implies, he is indeed a pilot. And unlike silly current cannon in which everyone and his brother knows how to fly a jet, here, being a pilot is a BIG DEAL. And here is Red talking to his lil' bro (and my favorite character), the pop-singing sensation Tino Manary. Why stop at the telephone book girls? Boy that fine oughta sing the Encyclo-freakin-brittanica from end to end!
I *could* explain the bad guys, but I don't wanna. Suffice to say that Tino comes in a saves the day with his futuristically hot 60's sports car.
He then provides needed publicity through his sheer hotness. Enter the mummy man.
I should post Rocky and Red snark at some point. Just know that the only person who can tick off Rocky more than Red can is the lil' bro, Tino.
*whimpers* Tino... Please prepare yourselves for 60's!Science now...
Quick explanation: Tino Manary is the his legally adopted stage name. He was born Marty Ryan. Is there more story to that? Sure, but this ain't the time or place, kidos.
Red and Tino. Is it any wonder that these two remind me just a teensy bit of Dick and Tim?
This and more fight scene followed by...
"Put down that scapel! That's no hat pin, you know!" I really should icon some of their dialogue at some point.
Aaaannnd...cliffhanger! Buh-by, folks! That's all for now! ^_~
