::Deep breath:: After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a shape shifting entity known as Matrix latched onto a cosmic memory of Kara Zor-El who died fighting the Anti-monitor and was erased from human memory. She made herself look like Supergirl and shortly after she appeared, Clark died. She got played a little by Lex Luthor, who used her to gain influence in Metropolis while the Man of Steel was KIA, and initialy fought against Superboy before the two teamed up with Steel to fight against the Cyborg Superman.

One day, Mae (as she was known) was flying along and saw a girl by the name of Linda Danvers. Linda was a drug user and had fallen in with a cult and was about to be sacrificed. Realizing she was in over her head, Linda cried out for help and forgiveness, and as Matrix went to help her, she merged into Linda in order to close Linda's wounds. Doing this; sacrificing her individuality for one who was 'beyond saving' made her into the Earth Born Angel of Fire.

As the angel of fire, she could still use her matrix powers to mimic Superman's powers, but in times of crisis she also had wings of fire and could teleport in a burst of flame and had flame vision. Linda/Matrix were merged for a long while, but in a fight with a vampire the Matrix part of her was ripped away and killed her.

Linda retained some of the power she had: She could leap an 8th of a mile and was still much stronger than a human, but she was slowly losing her powers. In the story arc where the icons come from, she had just met pre-crisis Kara Zor-El through a fluke in Hypertime and swapped places with her. Linda lived an entire life as Kara, she even got married to Superman and they had a baby girl, Ariella. But, Linda realized that no matter what she did, Kara was stil fated to die in the Crisis, so she swapped places again, going back to her own time, making it so essentialy none of that ever happened, though she did make the guy who was bending hypertime agree to keep Ariella alive. He put her in the far future in space.

Dan Didio said that Linda has been wiped from existance, but later Geoff Johns stated with confusion that she hasnt been retconned out at all. She hasnt been seen or heard from since the crisis. My theory is that she's lost all her powers and vanished into the same obscurity of retimrement that Secret, Arrowette, and Empress. They all get together on wednesdays and play bridge.
