I have been assigned the task of warbling on about 6 characters who's names begin with the letter "A". For fandoms, I have decided to go with Hetalia, the DC universe, Star Wars, Percy Jackson, and Disney's Treasure Planet...
A
What can I say? He is my country. He's colorful and youthful. He's awesome, but not as awesome as he thinks he is. He's a doer and a fighter, and he's terrible at geography. He's got a ton of prejudices, but even more compassion. Snarky and long-winded, annoying yet honest ... he is America.
It is an insult to call this man a butler. He is so much more. Surrogate parent, caretaker, taskmaster, friend, and open ear. The most powerful people in the grandest city in the DC universe would be completely lost without him.
Every girl needs a kick-ass princess to look up to when she's itty-bitty. I had a few, but Amethyst was one of my favorites. She was a thirteen-year-old who could cross through a portal, and suddenly be a 20-something beautiful young woman with an awesome sword, princely boyfriend, royal entourage, winged horse, and purple palace. And yet... a girl who's emotionally thirteen doesn't get to keep the princely boyfriend, and sometimes that royal host of friends betrays you. And there are enemies, and responsibilities, and sometimes that palace is one battle away from crumbling down around you... and Amy dealt with that, always coming out stronger on the other side of it. A part of me prays that DC will revive her title one day.
Whiney and recalcitrant, yet spirited and destined for a tragic sort of greatness... who doesn't love Darth Vader, really? I enjoy his story as a saga, both the rebelliously in-love man he is early on, and the epitome of badass he becomes.
Of all the mythological gods and goddesses I studied as a little Gidge, it was Athena who hit home. She was so cool, and so helpful, it's no wonder that I felt similar feelings regarding her daughter. I love how she defies the cliche of the dumb blonde, not by being bitter about it, but by just being smart, and tough, and internally beautiful. I loved her loyalty as well, it's in how she misses Thalia, is so so hesitant to give up on Luke, and never stops searching for Percy. I find it fascinating how somebody who is so noted for her brains, is also unafraid to show her emotions. She's hurt? You'll know. She's angry? You'll really know. Because... that's just Annabeth.
I can't really sum up her awesome any better than her own words:
"Doctor, to mule and blabber about a treasure map, in front of this particular crew, demonstrates a level of ineptitude bordering on the imbecilic... and I mean that in a very caring way."
Now, comment herein, and I shall assign you a letter, so you can go and do the same.
