"I don't understand. I thought you would be more upset."

"Do you want me to be, Kara? I could engage in theatrics, start tearing up the room or shouting expletives at you. It would simply be unnecessary. I've seen this coming for some time."

She flinches at the unintentional pun. Time. Her own time. She needs to go back. She probably shouldn't have begun with an explanation of that fact. Brainiac 5 probably knew it better than she.

"I want... I want to part on good terms. Can we? Can we do that, Querl?"

She moves in for a hug, and it's the first time today that she's seen him lose that composure, blinking at her in an unsettled manner.

"I... yes. We can do that."

The hug is a little more like the old days. Longer than hugs with anyone else, a little more breathing in, a little more rubbing of each other's backs. Kara tries not to do it too much, though. The Coluan spinal chord is a potential erogenous zone, after all.

The parting is horribly awkward. They've already said goodbye, really. And getting into regrets would keep either one from moving. So she merely backs away and nods before turning to leave.

After she is gone, Brainiac 5 stares for a while at the door through which she vanished.

He sleeps dreamlessly that night, but there is a catch. When his mind is still tranquil with slumber, his body rises. It pads down to the lab and begins to piece things together. At the end of the night, he has the beginnings of an android. The process repeats the next few nights, continuing the work.

At the end of the week, the thing looks strangely like Supergirl.
