This evening I went to photograph a lovely new listing on the Clarksville edge of Old Enfield. Old Enfield being an area of stately homes often referred to as mansions and Clarksville being a more eclectic area of artistic types on adorable frame houses with a whole lot of charm and character. Some updated, some not.
As I approached the intersection of Enfield and Mopac (a major expressway here in town for those who haven't enjoyed living in Austin ... yet) I noticed a gentleman on his bike waiting for the light to change. Nothing odd about that, Austin is filled with bikers and pedestrians. He had shoulder length greying hair, average height and build. As I thought he wasn't wearing a shirt - which I always think is rather foolish after years of motorcycle safety. Being on any wheeled vehicle on paved roads, among motorized vehicles means wearing protective clothing to keep from losing a whole lot of skin should something happen that causes body to make contact with road.
As I got closer I idly thought "Wow, it almost looks like he isn't wearing anything. He must have on tan slacks or something."
Then I got to the red light and stopped, with him calmly waiting for the light in the middle of rush hour traffic. Standing with his bike. Wearing nothing but a bright red jock strap and a pair of flip flops.
I admit to having been highly amused. Not just by the fellow happily riding through one of the most densely populated sections of town in the middle of rush hour traffic all but nude, but at the way no one was reacting to it. There were no horn honks. No cat calls. No screeching of brakes. Everyone just went about their own business and no bothered the gentleman out for a ride in the sunshine ... wearing his spiffy BRIGHT RED jock strap.

Gotta love Austin!!
