Hello everyone! I've been out of livejournal for too long. I had my exams and university applications to take care of. Fortunately it all went well, maybe not SPECTACULARLY, but I'm happy with how everything turned out. Anyway, I've stumbled upon The Mortal Instruments series. And OH MY GOD did I get obsessed! I read the three parts in three days! I can't fully describe how awesome these books are! If you liked Twilight - you should definitely go read them, but beware of some actual storyline and some real action and adventure (just saying... Twilight was really boring to me...) So while writing this I thought "hey, why not bore the unlucky accidental readers some more :) So here is "the 5 reasons to read TMI" list. I realize 5 reasons sounds kind of lame, but if I had to make it a 10-reasons list it would take forever... literally :D
5 REASONS TO READ THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS:
1. The storytelling. I have to say, there was always some development. And there was always some action, but it was always to the point and well thought of. I was never bored.
2. The characters. I loved all of them. Even the evil ones. I even liked Valentine... sort of... kind of... anyway :D I just think that I can understand him even if I wouldn't act the way he did. And for the first time the main protagonist of the story isn't awfully annoying (Harry Potter, Bella SHwan?... sorry to all the Bella fans out there). She has some I'm-a-stupid-teenage-girl moments but that's only normal since... she is a teenage girl. But she was really brave and just very likable! And do I even need do mention Jace? Probably not, but here it goes. What I really love about him, is that he is funny! He is funny and sarcastic and that's what makes him a better character than Edward (that and being better looking, stronger and smarter... I'll stop with the Twilight bashing now ) And how cool are their names huh? Jace, Clary, Alec, Simon... yeah that one is sort of normal :D
3. The suprises. Don't want to spoil anyone, but there are lots of "provocative" plot lines. Okay, maybe not extremely provocative, but I think the more conservative readers (or haters) would be a little taken aback. But I love it how Cassandra Clare decided to make those choices, it makes the book unique in a way and also gave it a more angsty edge.
4. The romance. Okay, I can't list reasons to read this and not mention the main reason that got me to read TMI - the romantic relationship between Jace and Clary. What I really love about it is that it doesn't take up all of the story (like ahem*twilight*ahem). It's there, we know about it and there are enough hints and scenes to make it real, but not too possessive of the plot. Also, I love how it's all played out. They don't fall in love at first sight (even if they do, they don't realize it) and they don't go all big words and promises and love confessions on each other. It's woven very lightly but yet very firmly into the story and in the final installments of the series it gets a little bit more attention. JACE/CLARY FTW ^o^
5. The supernatural/fantasy factor. I haven't read that many fantasy books (most of Tolkien's works, some of the Chronicles of Amber, some Terry Pratchet, some of the Chronicles of Narnia, Children of Dune, Harry Potter, maybe some other...), but I love the world Cassandra Clare created. I think it's awesome to name the demon hunters SHADOWHUNTERS, and I think it's awesome for them to fight through rune art. Plus I have always been fascinated by stories about angels and demons. The best thing is - it's really believable. It's imaginative and fantasy-like but it's realistic and logical.
What I love most about TMI is that is a young adult series that doesn't make fun of teens or project things in a naive or superficial way. Overall, the books are brilliant, and I hope I convinced you to read them (although I'm not a very good writer...) And when you do read them, please comment bellow and tell me your thoughts. I would love to discuss :)
p.s. I almost forgot: I love it how C. Clare does so many references to anime and manga titles. The one with "Angel Sanctuary" lol, I thought "how many people would realize that this is not just a random comic book she picked"... Very thoughtful :)
So what did I do when I finished reading and my obsession didn't stop? I went PHOTOSHOP CRAZY! That's right. I know I am really bad at these blog-like posts, so I'm just gonna post the graphics now. See the next entries for some walls, banners, posters, logos, manipulations and A DREAM CAST! :) I told you I went crazy. See how I just had to make a pic for this kind of pointless post? Now this is seriously disturbing...
