Title: Of Snowflakes and Hot Chocolate
Pairing: YunJae, slight Yoosu
Genre: Fluff, slight AU
Rating: G
Summary: A romantic day of Christmas shopping and surprises.
The snow falling that day was the kind where the flakes stuck together to form large fluffy formations that took a little longer to melt on your hand. They were falling in a steady silent shower that painted the city with a layer of white that glittered in the sun. Yunho and Jaejoong had chosen a perfect Thursday afternoon to do their Christmas shopping and they were both walking down the sidewalk, gloved hand in gloved hand. Jaejoong would stop and look in a window every once in a while but they had yet to buy anything for the multiple friends and family on their shopping list.
Yunho was content to watch Jaejoong and had mostly tagged along to help carry the bags since he wasn’t the best at gift shopping like his lover was. For what had to be the tenth time since they left their small apartment that morning, Jaejoong stopped in front of a large glass window with mannequins dressed in the store’s clothes.
“What do you think of that shirt Yunho?” he asked, pointing at a very soft looking men’s grey sweater. “Do you think that either of our fathers would wear something like that?”
“I’m not sure,” Yunho replied, pretending to be in thought while looking at the garment but inwardly smiling. “You’re the fashion expert after all.” Jaejoong looked into the window again with a cute expression on his face while thinking. After a few seconds he shook his head and turned to leave. Yunho, not able to resist the adorable look, pulled on Jaejoong’s arm and pulled him towards him.
“Wha-?” Jaejoong began to say but was cut off by a soft kiss to his forehead.
“You’re being too cute,” Yunho chuckled letting Jaejoong back up a little. “I couldn’t resist.” Jaejoong glared up at him but Yunho just winked at him and smiled mischievously. Shaking his head Jaejoong turned to head to the next store but was yanked back again.
“Yunho, enou-“ he began to say but then quickly realized that the pull on his arm had been very rough and his head was tucked into Yunho’s scarf just as a wave of snow washed over them and almost knocked them over. Jaejoong didn’t lift his head until he felt a hand wiping the snow off from his hair and shoulders and gasped.
“Oh my god! Yunnie, are you okay?!” he asked reaching up and wiping the snow off from Yunho’s face and hair. His skin was starting to turn pink from the snow and Jaejoong felt bad that he hadn’t been able to cover his face from the blast.
“I’m fine. Just an over-zealous snow plow just drove by. Luckily I saw it before it got us both in the face.” Yunho continued to wipe the snow from Jaejoong’s clothes and hair then noticed that he was shivering. “Are you okay boo?”
“Yeah, some snow managed to get down my coat and it’s melting down my back.” They both started laughing at their situation then Yunho pointed at a small café across the street.
“Let’s go over there and warm up for a little while before we continue our shopping.” Jaejoong nodded his head in agreement and both looked for anymore snow plows before crossing the street and entering the café. The sign above the door read ‘Heart, Mind, and Soul Cafe’ in a swirly text that was done in a brass brown color.
The inside of the shop was warm and the couple instantly liked the décor. The walls were done in a sage green color with paintings and various European inspired decorations. The floors were a dark espresso bamboo that matched the dark mahogany wood of the tables and chairs. To their right there was an L-shaped counter with stools that was set-up for people to use their laptops. Near the back wall were four tables, with four chairs each, with single candles in the center of the tables. The back left corner held a small stage with a shiny black piano and stool sitting on it. But, what caught their attention the most was the free standing square fireplace in the back right corner with three brown leather couches around it. The fire place had four glass sides with a chimney of flat stones of varying lengths and widths going from floor to ceiling. The stones came in all shades of brown and there was a large fire already going inside.
Walking to their left they approached the counter where a young man was waiting to take their orders. He had chocolate brown hair done in a simple short style and his eyes seemed to sparkle as he noticed the couple holding hands. He was wearing a black apron with the café’s logo on it and he was smiling at them as they approached.
“Welcome to Heart, Mind, and Soul. What can I get for you?” Yunho looked at the name tag on his shirt then looked up and smiled back.
“Hi Junsu. I’d like a hot green tea and…” he paused and waited for Jaejoong to say what he wanted as the other man looked at the menu.
“I’d like a hot chocolate please.” Junsu smiled then placed the order and took the money from Yunho. He quickly got their drinks around then handed them the white cups with saucers on a tray.
“Thank you for coming.” The couple bowed and Yunho grabbed the tray while Jaejoong walked towards the couches by the fireplace like Yunho knew he would. He set the tray down on one of the three coffee tables set-up in front of the couches then sat down beside Jaejoong. Both were so occupied with their drinks that they didn’t notice a second young man walk onto the stage and start to play the piano until they heard the soft melody. The second young man had almost shoulder length black hair that was done in a nice slightly curled style. He seemed to be in his own world while he played, his eyes closed and his body swaying slightly to the tempo of the melody.
Ten minutes passed and neither Yunho nor Jaejoong said much while they listened to the pianist. A waiter approached them after a while, also wearing a black apron with the logo on it.
“Hi. My name is Changmin. Can I get you two any refills or something to eat?” He smiled at the couple and the glow from the fire made his face and wavy brown hair shine.
“Refills for both please and could I possibly have a baguette with jam?” Jaejoong asked as the waiter bent down to grab the tray with their cups.
“Sure thing. I’ll be right back.” Jaejoong watched him leave then he felt a pinch on his side.
“Ow! What was that for?”
“Stop starring at his butt. I know you were.” Yunho said while winking at Jaejoong to show that he was teasing.
“I can’t help it. Those tight black dress pants are very form fitting.” Yunho gave Jaejoong a disbelieving look causing the other to burst out laughing. “Oh, don’t give me that look Yunnie. You know I love your butt the best” Jaejoong then leaned over and gave Yunho a soft kiss to prove his point.
“Here you are.” The voice of their waiter interrupted them and both turned to thank him, smiling like love-sick teenagers. While reaching for his drink, Yunho noticed something out of the corner of his eye that was sitting in a weaved basket next to their couch. Smiling he turned to Jaejoong and told him to take his shoes off.
“Why?” Jaejoong asked slightly confused. Yunho just reached over and pulled out one of the many large soft blankets that were sitting in the basket. “Oh, ok”
Yunho leaned back against the arm of the couch and waited for Jaejoong to get situated before throwing the blanket over the two them. They relaxed comfortably chest to back while sipping their drinks, Jaejoong occasionally dipping his baguette with jam into his hot chocolate. Yunho made a face every time he did that but he knew it was something that his boyfriend had picked up on their trip to France and he had been addicted to it ever since.
Their stomachs soon full, Yunho could tell that Jaejoong was starting to drift off so he grabbed their cups and plate and placed them back on the tray so as not to make a mess. When he looked back down at Jaejoong resting against his chest he couldn’t help but smile. The firelight reflected off from his porcelain skin and made him glow even more than he usually did. Yunho couldn’t help but smile at the contrast between his warm caramel skin and the white of Jaejoongs while holding his hand. His other hand came up to play with Jaejoong’s soft black hair and knew that his lover was already asleep. He rested his chin on the top of his head and closed his eyes to let them rest for a while. The waiter then stopped by and silently took the tray of tableware, careful not to wake either of them up.
Meanwhile…
“That’s so sweet.” The cashier said while starring at the sleeping couple cuddled on the couch.
“They must have been really tired,” the waiter replied while setting the dishes into a bin for dirty ones. “But I think anyone would fall asleep when listening to Yoochun play his songs and having a stomach full of warm drinks.”
“You’re just not romantic are you, Changmin?” the cashier asked while lightly hitting the younger man with a towel.
“I think our Minnie is a closet romantic,” a third voice joined in. The pianist from earlier came walking from the stage and approached the cashier who was smiling at him. “Do you agree with me Junsu?”
“Hmm, I think I can somehow agree with that,” Junsu giggled as Yoochun wrapped his arms around his waist from behind. “But I think we need to find him a boyfriend first to prove if it’s true or not.”
“You two leave me out of your match-making scheming. The last time you tried that I ended up scarred for life. I can’t look at spaghetti the same ever again.” The couple just burst out laughing and then turned towards the couple on the couch.
“Reminds me of when we first started dating,” Yoochun said placing a kiss on Junsu’s cheek. “Carefree and our heads in the clouds.”
