I went to the Folklife festival on the Mall with Liz today. They had a really weird pairing of the country of Oman with a vague topic called "Food Culture" and the history and practice of Forestry. I wonder that they didn't try to find three topics that related a bit better.
There were a lot of really interesting exhibits. (Liz particularly liked the one about how to make Tofu.) But my favorite were the camels at the Oman place.
According to the Post, one of the camels, named Richard, escaped yesterday and was cruising down the street before his tamer managed to catch up in a golf cart.
I have added "Ride a camel down the street" to my list of things to do before I die.
Mum had ridden camels before. She said that they were too stinky and sweaty for her taste, and that she preferred riding elephants.
Bet you never knew how exotic my mum's childhood was.
Still startles me sometimes.
But one day, I too will be able to complain that the camel is not as good a transport as the elephant.
