Danica at least waited until she was 9 months for a trip to the ER...

Sigh.

So, the little monkey has been having trouble eating. He's doing well, it's me, I don't have enough for him yet. Breastfeeding is hard for a little one to do. Because of that, it's tiring. He was not getting enough milk, so he was too tired to suck. Because he was too tired to suck, he wasn't getting enough milk. Because he wasn't getting enough milk, he wasn't draining the breast, so it couldn't refill, so I wasn't making enough milk to support him. We got caught in a vicious cycle.

We started using an S&S to top him up with formula. That's where you put a tube on your boob so that the baby is still breastfeeding and getting breast milk, but they are also getting formula at the same time. This helped a little bit, but not a lot.

By Sunday he was pretty dehydrated. He was too tired to drink at the breast, so it wasn't good. When the public health nurse came she gave us instructions to start just giving him as much formula as he would take, after he ate at the breast. This started to help, but he still wasn't peeing.

By 10 PM last night he still hadn't peed, so we ended up calling HealthLinks, which recommended to take him to Children's Emerg.

Hence, our first ER trip of Zach's little life. They were great. WE got there and there were tons of people already there, but because he was so small we were giving a more private room to wait in, then seen right away. That was wonderful. He had peed once more on the way to the hospital but because he wasn't getting enough liquids, it was this bright pink urate crystals.

They gave us a bottle of formula to feed him and asked that we feed him from that as much as possible to give him a good feed to maybe get him to pee, and they took some blood to make sure his kidneys were OK.

We gave him the bottle and because he's not a bottle fed baby fully, he gulped it down quick, and ended up explosively vomiting most of it back at us. Poor little thing!!!!

We got to the hospital at 12 am, and were able to leave at 3 am. His kidneys are fine, and he actually started gaining weight again yesterday after we started supplementing. He peed, actually peed, before we left too!!! yay!!! Wade came to watch Danica.

We rented a double pump to help with the breastfeeding problem too. As long as I keep pumping a lot, my milk will come in, and we can go back to breastfeeding fully, which will be nice. Last night when we had to go to the hospital it was a pain in the butt to try and work out the formula thing (sterile bottle, bring a can, how to store it afterwards, etc.)

So, hopefully things will normalize today. I'll write about my birth later!!!
