So as book number 2 (Darkness Rises) treks along, I wanted to take a moment to discuss the muse. She is a fickle thing that basically controls the obtuse directions scenes and characters seem to take. Sometimes they are good sometimes they are very, very bad. When your book or scene begins taking one of these turns, sometimes loops completely around, it can signify a desire to travel in a different direction or it could just be the bored muse at play.
Though it sounds like no fun, sometimes you have to reign her in. I know I do. But leave her enough creative control to let her experiment. Who knows, you might end up with something great. It's worth it, even if you find your outline completely useless. Maybe it happened for a reason, and if it makes the story better, how can you really complain?
Now that I've had that moment to discuss the muse and their frequent unruliness, time to move on to business. I have great news.
70492 / 80000 words. 88% done!
In honor of less than ten thousand words left to go I have changed the look of the page. Can anyone guess what city skyline this is? I won't give any hints, but it is where the majority of Darkness Rises takes place.
I'm working on the last inserted scene now. After that I can jump back into the finale. Soon I will be calculating the final fight scene then the resolution. I'm not quite sure how it will actually end, but I have a few surprises for Angel.
Well, back to work while the muse is still somewhat focused. I'm still hoping to complete the first draft before the end of May so wish me luck.
