It Gets Better

Teen suicides have been drawing major attention in the media lately. Bullying is something that no matter how hard we, as a society, try never goes away. And there are so many victims.

These poor teens have enough to deal with in their day to day lives without having to fear bullies. The topic of teen suicide due to bullying is something that hits home fairly hard for me, because I'm a survivor. Too many years ago to count, one of my family members was being bullied at his high school. His friends knew about it. His family didn't. He felt he had no one to talk to, no safe haven to steal away to. And one day he took his own life.

I'm not making this post to tell my story, I'm making it to tell his. This family member had other options, ones his family wished he would have looked into. It is difficult to be bullied, for whatever reason, but guys, it doesn't just get better, it gets so much better.

So, please, from someone who has had to live without a loved one, speak out. If a friend is being bullied, stand with them, let them know they're not alone. And if you or anyone you know might be depressed or contemplating suicide, there are people that can help. Make one call.

Middle school and high school don't last forever and neither do the awkward teen years. So much more comes out of life than the bad. Think of your family. Think of your friends. And think of yourself, you dreams, hopes, wishes, and goals. Let those empower you and keep pushing on. Because life gets better.
