Mint Chip Ice Cream--and all that Jazz...

Nov 15, 2005 00:21

Well, before I go into a rant and rave about the day passed, I'm just going to make a little observational comment. I never really noticed before but I always seem to take around an hour to type this sucker--whether that be by distraction or content, it seems to happen. *shrug* One less hour of my day to worry about I suppose. Anyway onto the actions of the day...

So I went to bed last night at around 3am with every intention of waking up by 6, studying till 9:30 and leaving for my Anthro exam by 10. Laugh with me now, because we all know that's never how things go. I even asked Dee, Evan and Rob to help me out and wake me up at 6 because I knew my main alarm, and 3 different set alarms on my cell-phone wouldn't do it. Sometimes I wish I didn't know myself so well. At 5:30 this morning I shut off my cell phone and regular alarm clock respecively and at 5:35 completely shut down my cell phone, rendering the last alarm pointless. I drifted between reality and sleep for the next half hour, when Dee attempted to wake me up. I heard her all right, but I wasn't moving. So at around 9 I finally managed to stumble out of bed (thankfully, considering I had no backup alarm to make me on time for class). Quickly as I could manage, I got dressed and pulled out my Anthro notes to take a final review of the information, hoping any of it would seep into my brain long enough for me to pass my exam. I can dream can't I? So I sat there until 10 and headed out to Arts Lecture Hall towards my impending doom with a rather brisk pace, inside deeply hoping the test had been postponed a day, due to our being behind.

Unfortunately the test wasn't postponed, but I did make it to the classroom with 10 minutes to spare before the exam started. Rather than look up information in the notes I neglected to bring in, I tossed my bag down at the front with the rest of the class and took my seat 3 rows up from the front. The test itself is pretty much a blur to me now, but I do know it went way too quickly. There was only one part of the exam I was 100% sure about and that's because somehow it managed to get under my studying eyes about 10 times in the two days passed. Not because I had it written down that many times, I think, but more because I kept getting distracted and re-reading the same page over and over again. But hey, that's 5 points out of 60 for me...woot. (/end sarcasm) At any rate, I sat there, bewildered at my early finishing and saw that there was still a good 30-40 minutes left in the class. I wasn't about to be the first to hand in my paper and openly admit my moron-state to the class, so I sat and waited for someone else to take the first step--assuming it to come in at least 20 minutes. Boy was I wrong. At a half hour left in the class, someone finally sat up and handed in their paper. Shortly there after there was a large number of people also handing in their papers--including me. Apparently I hadn't been the only one who struggled with it. If I'm lucky she'll scale the grades--but I'm never that lucky. All I can hope for is a pass, and for time to study a lot before my final on Dec. 22nd where I'll ace it and walk away with a descent grade for the semester. Hey, I said I can dream...

So, by the time everything was handed in and whatnot, I turned to leave AL and go over to Modern Languages to meet up with Kaitlyin and Jess as I usually am schedualed to on Mon/Weds/Fri. Being a good 20mins early to when they would probably arrive, I set my bag down on one of the larger tables, anticipating their arrival, and walked to the mini-Brubacher's like place they have there. I had a quick chat with the lady there--Joan I believe her name is. Since I haven't been around ML in a little while I actually had something more substansial to say than normal. After our chat, and ordering my sandwich, I left and headed back to my bag to flip through whatever papers I could find--avoiding my Anthro textbook at all costs. I'd rather have a chance to believe I could have been right, rather than open the textbook and see how horribly wrong I was on the exam. Either way, I ate my sandwich and drank my orange juice (which I was really foolish to buy in the first place, and could only stomach a little bit of it before deciding I'd best put off orange juice for a little while too). So after Jess and Kaitlyin arrived, glad to see me alive and at class again, we sat and talked about various stuff before I went and grabbed a coffee--precious morning lifeblood. When I got back, Jess asked us both to look over her legal studies paper that was due Wednesday. We said sure, but the paper was handed to me first. Apparently now I'm the official paper-reviewer, as Kaitlyin's giving me hers sometime this week, and Jess again after she edits with what I wrote. I don't mind though, helps me keep up my own writing skills, not to mention I'll have more people to proof-read mine when I've written it last minute and don't have the day to wait for me to look at it unbiasedly.

Mmmk, right, so having the paper finished editing, and the two of them having to go off to class, I left ML and headed home. Normally at the same time as their class, I'd have CLAS 100, but today was a tutorial, and seeing no real point in going, I took the comfort of my house instead, figuring I'd have a shower maybe a cat-nap and head back in time for PHIL 100J by 2:30. Yeah, mmk. So I got home, and instead of taking a shower or sleeping, I figured I'd check my email and play a bit of music. Of course this lead me to my daily site checklist, and actually left me hanging around 1up for a long while (www.1up.com). I hadn't spent a great deal of quality time around the site in a while so I figured I'd post on some people's blogs, reply to some club posts, and reply to the posts people made in my blog there. Not much work, but when you have a lot of people and clubs to go through, it takes some time. Either way, by the time I looked at the clock (which is really similar to what happens when I check the clock after writing this blog up), it was 2:20...Yup, apparently no Philosophy today. It was all good though, as Alex decided to show up--due to bordem. We hung out at my place a little, talking about our respective weekends and of the like before deciding to head out and check out the Beat Goes On, as well as to pick him up some losanges for his throat. Either way, we ended up hopping into the Trans Am, blaring music and heading out on our merry way. In the back of my mind I could help but think about how much I'm going to miss that car in the winter, not to mention how much I already miss the Iroc. The thoughts kinda passed my mind quickly though as we headed to Shoppers and then up to TBGS.

At TBGS, I only had a few CDs I was really looking for. Keith Urban's The Golden Road, anything by the Trews, or The Verve. Thankfully I found Urban Hymns by them for $11.99, which was a tremendously better rate than the $26.99 bid Sunrise had for a copy new. Satisfied, and after recieving a call from Britt, we left the store and headed down to her place in Kitchener. It was probably around 3:45 by the time we got there and waited for her to toss in her laundry and come outside. She had just spent the day working as a TA at a local elementary school, and pretty much made Alex and I look like grubs in clothing dress, but it didn't really matter, especially considering she was getting into a Trans Am...that pretty much knocked the class down a good chunk (even though its such a wicked automobile :P). At any rate, we decided to head up to the King St. East Side Mario's for half-priced apps since it was after 4 and we were all starving. Britt was wired as all hell, which was entertaining as usual and just made me realize why we tend to have so much fun as a group when at least one of us is wired. Well, we technically usually have a good time, but I had to draw that point in somehow lol.

It was an odd experience sitting in the booths of the bar area of East Side's again. We even managed to sit pretty much in the same booth we had all summer, and I came to the conclusion that coming there with anyone other than Britt, Alex or Tim would feel very odd and out of place. I mean, I could probably handle it with at least one of them there, but being there entirely devoid of them? Awkward, and empty. That's not to say I can't go to East Side's at all without them, I just really can't go for half-priced apps in the bar-area without feeling awkward. Anyway...moving on, we all ordered nachos, which was interesting because its pretty much the first time Britt's ever ordered nachos on her own. Usually she'd go for a salad or chicken wings then split nachos with one of us. Its been a while though, and fall/winter appetites are definately different than those of the summer. Life was good, we finished eating happily while watching some crazy triathalon on the TVs, munching down on nachos and drinking our respective versions of Coke while grasping a little bit of the summer we all had loved so much.

After paying our bills, we left and headed to BMO so I could grab some cash to take to Needles Hall (or Needless hell, as its often known) to pay off my emergency loan. From there, we went back to my place where we parted ways and I decided to go take a spin on the demo disc I got in this month's OPM that I picked up while with Alex at Shopper's, after having a few chats with people online. Not incredibly much caught my eye on the disc, but I did try out Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Dragon Quest VIII (leaving Ratchet: Deadlocked for a more attentive day). Need for Speed: Most Wanted seems like its going to be an awsome addition to the series. The controls were a bit awkward in the demo but that's to be expected from a demo, and from me not being used to the random car provided. Thankfully it comes out tomorrow so I'll try and pick up a rental of it and see if those controls improve. Otherwise the graphics are phenominal and definately looks like more fun hours spent crashing and cruising in illegal street racing style...oh the polygonic memories. Anyway, then there was Dragon Quest VIII, which immediately reminded me of the original Dark Cloud, and with good reason too. It was made by the same people, in addition to being produced by the awsome Squenix. It looks like its going to be an awsome game too, which I'm definately going to have to check out, beyond the FFXII demo that comes with the actual game disc, rather than on the demo.

Anyway, having had enough of my demo disc, and having not payed much attention to anything in written form today (aside from college humor), I sat and watched a little stand-up, and the remainder of Chicago on CBS. Other than that, not much has transpired today. I just got out of a nice warm shower, am enjoying a small bowl of what's left of my ice cream, and thinking I may actually get to bed at a decent hour. Decent being before 3am. All-in-all, things are well--let's just hope they stay that way ;).
