So you invite your boyfriend to a masquerade ball at a retirement home, dooming your date to an evening of old music and old stories and not much time together since you’re working the event. But he still shows up in a smart suit with a mask, looking hopeful and ready for the evening. He is helpful and gracious, bringing praise from co-workers and residents alike. He waltzes though he isn’t sure how, dips you during the slow song he can dance to, and kisses your hand at the end and thanks for the dance because he’s a gentleman and views you as a lady…and at the end of the night you turn to see him dancing up a storm with an 84 year old woman with a walker, who hasn’t looked that alive since she came to live there, despite the fact that his peers are watching because he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him as long as he’s making someone happy…and you realize this is the kind of man you could spend your entire life with and never feel cheated.
He wasn’t what I expected…he’s everything I’ve needed…and all I’ve ever wanted. It’s going to be a long weekend in Texas indeed.
