A Missed Opportunity

Buffyfest conducted an interview with Jane Espenson about Season 8.  I... have a lot to say about it.  And yes, I still feel positive and hopeful for the conclusion of Season 8.  I'm still enjoying Season 8.  But this?  Yeah, there's still wankery going on that's making my feminism light up like a radioactive Christmas tree.

Have you considered linking this to her via Twitter? I'm probably just being unrealistic here but...

I try not to self-pimp too much. I'm always worried it makes people dismiss it or maybe they think it's tacky.

would you be ok, if I linked her in?

Sure thing.

Done, not sure if she'll read it, but I thought an attempt to set things back into the right light can't hurt.

It's really annoying that this site keeps misrepresenting the parts of fandom it doesn't like.

Yes. I'm so tired of it. I think I might do what Deird suggested and write Jane a letter. While it may take longer, I think it'd be worth it.

That's a good idea, I was pondering myself, because Jane is my favourite Buffy writer and one who always stood for things I loved on the show. My favourite season is the one where she wrote the most episodes.

Caprica is made of pure brilliant and one of it's biggest assets is how women and girls are presented in such a real (sadly rare) way in it. I'd hate for her to think the feminist concerns fans are having are about Buffy the bankrobber instead of the actual problem.

Also because her answer makes me think she'd even see the problem. If Buffy went darkside in a believable way, where here character development naturally leads there, I would probably quite enjoy it, but Buffy needed to have literally taken her will away to fit this plot and if that's not a problem that's seen as such and addressed in the books I'd see it as a big feminist failing.

I also wondered if your post about how the whole Dawn/Kenny thing ws portrayed wouldn't also fit the list of disturbing.

I'm right here with you. And yeah, I think the Dawn/Kenny storyline absolutely fits this bill, too.

It's SO TRUE. And the minute you call them on it they turn it around and say you're the biased one because they're so legitimate they have their big cool friends!

This is why I always find myself wishing Emmie got all these exclusives and such.

LOL! I'd have no life if I did all these interviews. I love doing them, no doubt, but my interview with Scott took a lot of time and effort (A LOT). My perfectionism and desire to be evenhanded means that I put a lot of thought into these interviews. Hard work is hard. I take it seriously like whoa.

flake_sake beat me with her offer, so I'll just comment to join the chorus of 'you should interview her!' :)
