We live in a strange world where my making you cry and you telling me about it is a compliment. Thanks.

Alas. :(

As a fan author who doesn't have easy access to the full gamut of Hollywood actresses, only those you actually see on television and in movies, I regret to say that of the Slayers I've fancast, they do tend to be relatively attractive. When I'm "just writing", however, I try to emphasize that Slayers run the gamut of appearances and body types (save maybe the very heaviest or scrawniest, and that's not a selection bias per se(EDIT: on the part of the Slayer powers)--I have to believe slaying burns fat and builds muscle).

I remember King Of Cretins on Buffyforums took me to task for trying to find a plus-size teen actress for the role of November Hall, a geeky Slayer who likes to attend Trek conventions and speaks fluent Klingon. (From what I've seen of the pics, Klingon aficionados tend to be the "heavy" type of nerd rather than the "scrawny" type, which makes some sense in terms of self-selection.) I was very annoyed with him. When I couldn't find anyone else I thought worked, I cast Trailer Girl as her.

Oh no, was the criticism just over the girl having a Not Sexy body type? Boo.

It's depressing to think of the lack of diverse reality. I think it's taking the easy way out. If your story was really that good, you wouldn't need pretty people to sell it.

Congratulations, you just broke my heart.

In the Watcher's Diaries one chronicler remarks they all should've known Sarah Walker's calling was a bizarre twist of fate. Sometimes the predestined wires get crossed. It's inexplicable, really.

See, all Slayers are hot chicks. Every. Single. One.

And this is when the tears began.

One more reason for you to read Promethea - one of the characters is definitely overweight for most of the series, though her weight does fluctuate to some degree. See flake_sake for details by details I mean contact her about dl

I love you for this, and I'm seriously having the snarkathon comm show it has a social conscience by hosting an "average-looking slayer" ficathon in June. Not really snarky, but it's still a valid critique of the comics.
