The Sales of Season 8 - Still Going Strong in TPB

Jan 24, 2010 22:18

Below you'll find two charts listing the Sales of Season 8 by individual issue and trade paperbacks. What's most fascinating to me is that Season 8 remains #1 in the trades to this day (it hits the #1 rank three times, #2 once and #3 once also). And Diamond doesn't keep track of all the trades that are bought at bookstores like Barnes & Noble and ( Read more... )

It's nice to see that the TPBs are doing well relative to other TPBs -- but don't let the rankings fool you. The # of issues sold is vastly larger than the number of TPBs sold. The drop in sales of issues is more than five times larger than the total sales of the best-selling TPB.

It may be that some of the drop in sales of issues is people buying fewer alternative covers. But I know a *ton* of people who've dropped the book. So I find it hard to believe that attrition of readers isn't the main thing going on here.

The drop in numbers between #25 and #26 isn't nearly as big as the drop in rankings. I'd guess that other titles came out that performed well, while season 8 continued to experience the steady erosion in sales.
