Fandom: Young Americans
Prompt: Ryder and Will run into each other some time after Rawley
Prompter: minttown1 (link is being weird)

“Madam Krudski,” the tone was incredulous.

“Madam Krudski” and an invitation to play, to lose.

“Taking your money’d be too easy.”

“Madam Krudski,” the tone was incredulous.

“Ryder,” Will acknowledged. “How’d they let you in here?” It wasn’t quite fast or confident enough. Ryder smirked.

“Taking your money’d be too easy” and “I guess that’s why your mother should be sitting there then” when Krudski’s gang were only witty because they made their friends laugh, not because they were good at being cruel.

“Madam Krudski,” the tone was incredulous.

“Ryder,” Will acknowledged. “How’d they let you in here?” It wasn’t quite fast or confident enough. Ryder smirked.

Ryder raised his eyebrows momentarily and rubbed his first two fingers and his thumb together, “Just ‘cause they say they prize brains over bank balance, doesn’t mean their favourite people aren’t the donors.” Will scowled momentarily.

“I forgot you had that thing. That ‘I’m so poor, take pity on me’ thing.” It had always been easy for Ryder to rile this group up. It was one of the reasons he disliked them, for being the only ones who openly disliked him, the only ones he could snark at like he had his English mates without worrying about American sensibilities (who’s nice to their friends?), and yet they were so easy, so bad at it.

“Sorry, didn’t realise you were one of the donors, that suit . . .” Will trailed off with a small smile in his voice “I assumed you were working for us.”

“On second thought, I’d love to take your money.” But Will had always rallied best. Jake and his girlfriend were always too offended to be sharp.

Ryder snorted.

“Sorry to disappoint, William, that your office isn’t going to become Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.”

“What’s this? Daisy and the Dukes?” “not going to hang around and play Taming Of The Shrew With You,” Will had noticed at the time Ryder’s thing with not-quite-popular culture.

“Oh, and there you were getting my hopes up, Gregor.”

“Oh,” Ryder, said, too offended to be serious, holding his hands up “sarcasm and real names, not necessary.”

Will rolled his eyes. From the moment Ryder called his name he hadn’t expected any great connection. He allowed himself to be pulled away to make a speech.
