Today sucked. Royally. Spoke with my mom and it seems she might have Hepatitus C. How did she get it? (Possibly have it, that is) Long story....
Let me back up a bit.
3 years ago this past April my mother was almost killed in an auto accident when she ran off the road and hit a bridge head on at about 65 mph. She never touched the breaks. So the best we can figure is that she fell asleep at the wheel. I kinda blame myself for the accident. Why? She was very tired and was headed to my sister's, an hour and a half away, because my sister had broken her ankle the previous Saturday and this was a Wednesday and she was going the next day to get her cast. Well, as I said, my mother was tired. She'd worked all day and had been popping her pain pills cause she'd been on her feet all day and was in a lot of pain.
Why was she in so much pain? She had a tumor on her spine at 19 years of age and has had 5 major back surgeries to remove the tumor and bone grafts. So, my mother who started out at a whooping 5'0" ended up a huge 4'8". She's crooked, literally. One of her legs is longer than the other because of the bone graft from her hip for her back. See, they didn't have bone banks back then.
So, she's in pain, okay? I ask if she wants me to take her down there. I can drive back that night and then just go back down to get her on Thursday after my sister has taken care of her stuff. She assures me she is all right and that she'll stop and get something to drink and that she'll be fine. I'm skeptical, but relent and go on home. By about 9:30 my time, my sister is calling asking where Mama is. She's not there yet and can't get her on the phone in the truck. I suggest that perhaps she's ran into traffic on the mountain or maybe is stopping for dinner to surprise her. So we give her another hour and a half and still no Mama. I tell my dad and we call the state police, give them the make and model of the truck, her name and such. We are then told that they are sorry to inform us, but my mother was in a serious accident and had to be Life Flight(ed) to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. We also find out her accident was less than 5 minutes from our home. About the time we find all this out, a patient of my dad's and his son who is an EMT pull up to the house. Now, mind you, it's about 11 pm. When I go out and see who it is, I know why they're there. I tell them that we just heard and they say that they have their church grapevine to have them start praying.
Ok, so she's flown to the hospital. Her face is flayed open by the windshield down into her sinus cavaties. See, the hood of the pickup went through the windshield and it basically peeled back and sliced her open. She's knocked out 3 teeth on the steering wheel, all 3 bones in her left arm are broken and her right hip is broken. She's pinned into the truck and they have to cut the top of the truck off and the steering wheel off just to get her out after using the jaws of life to get the door off because the front end of the truck is so jammed back.
So she's given all kinds of blood transfusions in the hospital and now the doctor thinks that she might have gotten the Hepatitus C from that. I think my mother has had enough pain and suffering in her life and I don't understand why God would do this to her. I really don't.
