I GOT A JOB! I am so excited that I am going to be earning money again. Money that I get to keep and use by myself. SQUEE
Interview #1: Financial Decisions, 260 Madison Avenue
After Management & Organizational Analysis at 10:45 I went to the bank on Broadway and made my way to the Astor Place Subway. Took the 6 train to Grand Central, went the wrong direction at first and found my way to 260 Madison Avenue. It's a gorgeous building with a security guy in the waiting area and lots of elevators. I make my way up to the 17th floor, fill out a stupid employee application and have my sit down interview. Things were going well, she said I had to take an excel and word test. They gave two scenario's where I had to draft a letter to a client explaining things that I had no idea about. The second was an excel sheet where I was given data and asked to organize it in a way that it made sense and do some subtotals. Really basic stuff. After my "test" she offered me the position! It's mainly administrative, I basically have to cater to this woman's needs and also take care of office tasks. Over time I will be getting some projects to work on, and some days I will be working with excel so it's pretty exciting (for me). I finished that interview and made my way to the 1 train, took that to Christopher Street & Sheridan Square for my second interview.
Interview #2: Diane Von Furstenberg, 389 W 12th Street
After walking a while from the subway I walked all the way to the West Side, saw the water and made my way to the "office". I walked into the boutique foolishly, where you have to be let in by a sales associate (um, wtf?). I found where I was scheduled to be... walk in and there's A POOL in the middle of the floor, a garment bag with a COSMOPOLITAN logo on it. There were fashion designers puttings clothes into suitcases ready to be shipped. There was a meeting with a bunch of ladies deciding which prada and gucci clothes to use in their photo shoot. There was a big studio where they were setting the backdrop to a photo shoot. All this time I was like OMFG I could work in a place like this! How Manhattan! This is what all the chick lit novels are about, suburban girls coming to NYC and getting these dream jobs!
The interview itself was stupid. Two accountants basically had a casual convo with me. Everyone in that office was wearing high heals, a dress, and a ton a makeup. I would have been sooo out of place. I wanted that job... but it was out of my way and in the end it comes down to MONEY.
12/hr vs. 7/hr.... can you guess what I picked. I will have my beautiful midtown job on Madison Avenue. It is the start of something good. Hopefully my relationship with amazing offices in Midtown is just beginning, and I will own a floor of some building someday! Yay for aspiring to be an investment banker in Manhattan.
