Hi! I'm Corinne. I'm two months shy of 27 (my, how the time has flown).
I've moved a LOT in my life. I was born in Orlando, Florida and lived fifteen minutes from Disney World until I was close to three years old. I used to call Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty my boyfriend, ha! After that, I moved an average of every eighteen months due to my step-dad's job (NOT military). Here's the list:
Florida
Georgia
North Carolina
New York
New Jersey
Ohio (spent 5 years here in the early/mid 1990s)
Maryland (a whopping 13 years, completing high school AND college there)
Virginia (got myself a nice promotion at the company I worked for and needed to relocate)
Ohio (got out of the retail industry and went into food service, requiring a massive relocation)
I actually kind of enjoyed moving frequently, even if it did get tougher as the years went on. I hated moving to Maryland in 1996 because it was towards the end of the school year, so I had no friends and was "the weird new girl." I had never been to middle school before (sixth grade was considered elementary school in Ohio), so I didn't know how the cliques worked and just had no clue how different life would be. To make matters worse, my mom drove me to a school half an hour away from where we lived because she didn't want me going to the closer middle school. Their English test scores weren't very good, and I was a very smart cookie. I was in the "honors" classes in fifth and sixth grade!
So why was I the "weird new girl"? I didn't wear make-up (wasn't allowed to until I was 13), I didn't have trendy clothes, and I listened to alternative rock music. I thought Gavin Rossdale from Bush was the greatest songwriter ever, after Kurt Cobain. Back in Ohio, I was slightly popular, with a lot of friends, but in Maryland? Nope. I couldn't even get "in" with the alternative crowd, all because of my starting school with six weeks left in the school year. I was very anxious to have a really close group of friends like I did in Ohio, but I just never found that in Maryland. I still sometimes wish that I had figured out to work the whole middle-school-friends thing, but it honestly hasn't hurt me as I've gotten older not having a big group of friends.
Middle school was awful, high school wasn't much better. I was too smart to hang with the goth/punk/rock/geek crowd and too goth/punk/rock/geek to hang with the smart kids. There were a number of people who would talk to me in class, but outside of school, the friends were few. I went to a place called Woods nearly every Friday night, where I would do things that most teenagers probably do and don't want their parents to know about. There were always local bands playing, and eventually I started dating the lead singer/guitarist of one such band. Don't worry, he wasn't my first love!
College was a little better for me. I started at Goucher then moved onto Towson when I decided I actually wanted to DO something with my life. At Goucher, I studied Arts Administration, a nicer way of non-profit organization management aka no way you'll ever make any real money in your life unless you work at MoMa or something equally amazing. I transferred to Towson after my sophomore year and worked hard to get my four-year degree in two and a half years. I pretty much had to start all over at Towson because Goucher didn't require nearly as many GenEd classes and was more lax on the required grades to pass the basic business courses. That was a really fun time in my life! But in December 2006, it was all worth it.
I worked in retail starting with my final semester in college. Didn't love it but I WAS good at it. I received promotions pretty quickly and thought I was OMGAMAZING when I got my promotion that required a move to Northern Virginia. I knew deep down that I wasn't OMGAMAZING but I did my best and worked my tail off. I was thisclose to receiving a job in California too, but obviously, looking at my list, I didn't make it there.
Currently, I'm back in Ohio and enjoying it for the most part. I'm a homeowner, something that I didn't think would happen for a few more years. I also have two cats, Pandora and Lluvy, and an extremely energetic Min Pin, Chloe. No boyfriend to speak of but I'm okay with my single status. I like to watch movies, read books, and sing along quite poorly with my iPod turned up as loud as possible.
