215: Friday night

Feb 10, 2007 09:19

Jack had made a phone call, and was now going through his stuff, trying to figure what - if anything - he should bring. First aid kit, yes, and a couple of other things. He was still bouncing with excitement over his gift from Rose, and really wishing e hadn't had to leave it in the weapons locker.

izzyalienqueen
Isabel had been taking care of various errands, but she remembered that in class Jack had handwavily said he wanted to talk to her tonight. Which would be why she was knocking on his door.

time-agent
"It's not locked," he called out, running through his mental checklist one more time as he looked around the room.

izzyalienqueen
"Like that would stop me," she teased as she opened the door and came into the room. Spotting the bag on the bed, she raised an eyebrow. "Going somewhere?"

time-agent
"I can't get anything past you, can I?" he asked, smiling as he leaned on the desk. "That's why I wanted you to come by. I'm heading off-planet tomorrow, and I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye."

izzyalienqueen
"Nope," Isabel grinned. "I'm smart like that. Of course now I have to wonder when the phrase going off-planet became common place in discussion." Wandering over, she leaned next to him. "Can I ask where? And why? Is it anything I can help with?"

time-agent
"You can ask," he teased, smirking widely. "The real question is: will I answer?"

izzyalienqueen
There were puppy eyes. And a sigh. The final touch? Isabel rested her head on his shoulder.

time-agent
"That is completely unfair," he muttered, not even trying to put up a fight. "River needs to find something out, something that means a trip back to where she comes from. And much as I'd love you to come with us," a total lie - he'd lock her in a closet before he'd let her come - but you'd never guess it from looking at him, "I think we're good."

izzyalienqueen
Isabel laughed and squeezed his arm. "And of course you're going to be perfectly safe and not in any danger at any time. Because I wouldn't want to have to worry."

time-agent
"Of course!" he laughed. "It's nothing, practically a holiday. I've never been there, so I'll be exploring new places." He paused and grinned. "But not new people because Sam's coming too, and Parker, and then there really would be danger."

izzyalienqueen
"Parker? And Sam? Right. No danger," she said, not believing a word he said. "No Cedric?"

time-agent
"Nope. Just the two of them. River invited Parker, I invited Sam," he explained. "And there might be a teensy bit of danger, but don't worry about it, Izzy. We'll be fine, and hopefully back before the weekend's over."

izzyalienqueen
"If you're not? I'm stealing your wizard and running off to Mexico," Isabel said seriously. "I mean it."

time-agent
"What if I'm late?" Jack asked, looking crestfallen. "What if there's traffic, and we don't get back on time. You'll be gone and you'll have taken my wizard with you. Hardly seems fair."

izzyalienqueen
"One word. Cozumel," she grinned. "Well two words, Cozumel and hammocks. If you bring us sunscreen and frozen drinks we might let you stay."

time-agent
"Doesn't matter anyway," he said airily, slanting her a teasing look. "Dawn and I are going to open a Fandom motel in Mexico. You'll have to be nice to me if you want to come and stay."

izzyalienqueen
Isabel looked stricken. "I've been replaced in your affections?"

time-agent
"You know me, short attention span, easily distracted by shiny things," he said, leaning against her and smiling regretfully. "It was bound to happen eventually."

izzyalienqueen
"And to think, I introduced you. Woe..." Isabel hung her head, the picture of dejection.

time-agent
Jack knew she was kidding. He knew she knew he was kidding. Neither of these things stopped him from pulling her into a hug, even if he was rolling his eyes at himself while he did it. "You fight so dirty, Isabel."

izzyalienqueen
Still holding on, she leaned back and smiled innocently at him. "Who? Me?"

time-agent
"Yes, you," he grumped, trying and failing to glare at her. "How did you end up immune to me when I can't resist you? It hardly seems fair."

izzyalienqueen
"It's one of life's great mysteries," Isabel said as she tapped his nose then danced out of reach. "So when are you leaving?"

time-agent
Jack folded his arms and stuck his tongue out at her, because sometimes he was twelve. "Saturday morning."

izzyalienqueen
She grinned back at him, amused. "Then I'll leave you to your packing. But promise me you'll be careful? And look out for Parker and Sam? Cause I'm sure they'll be looking out for you."

time-agent
"Count on it, Izzy," he told her. "Promise you won't steal my wizard?"

izzyalienqueen
"I'll wait till Monday at least before I start booking tickets," Isabel promised as she came back and gave him a hug. "After that, I can make no promises. Be careful. And call me as soon as you get back."

time-agent
Jack hugged Isabel back, lifting her briefly off her feet. "I will, and I will," he said as he set her down and stole a quick kiss. "See you, Izzy."

izzyalienqueen
"And it better be soon. Otherwise I'm off to Mexico to work on my tan. And I won't be alone!" Isabel winked and blew him a kiss before heading out the door.

Jack watched her leave, then went back to packing.
