Just watched Channel 8's
Mission Possible. In this first episode, Fann Wong and an art teacher visited a village named Ban Arunothai, a village located in the north of Chiang Mai, bordering with Myanmar. Effectively, there are many Burmese refugee who live in this poor village.
The school that they visited is called "En Hui", a chinese school, and a lot of the students there are from "Zhu En" orphanage. From the names, I'm quite sure that they are Christian-based.
Most of the students there are not only orphanage, but each of them has their heart-wrenching story.
Yin Fang, a small girl who was brought by her mum from Myanmar in order to make a better living. After getting married to another guy in the village, the mum had to go to Bangkok to work, leaving the daughter with her step-father, and later to find out that he had been abusing the girl, beating, kicking, etc... Mum decided to divorce the husband and sent Yin Fang to the orphanage, so that she can continue to work in Bangkok.
Yin Fang, whom at the beginning of the program was seen to be very rebellious and different from the other kids, quietly and sadly sobbed while her mum was being interviewed. From the way she sobbed, I wondered, how long has she been keeping that? I mean, even as an adult we do know how a horrible feeling it is to suppress all your emotion, sadness, keeping it deep in your heart. How much more suffering it can be that it happens to a kid, who's supposed to be cheerful, carefree? How can? How can a child live in such a misery? She may seem to be so inobedient, hard to teach, naughty.. but who will know what is it that's at the deepest of her heart?? Well, after that session of crying, she became much much better... there was smile, attentiveness to ppl (Fann Wong) who talked to her.
I believe it's not only Yin Fang... but more... more of them...
Zhu Guang, my favorite boy :) 8 years old, told that he's hated by his mum just because he look a lot like his father (who was a bad husband). But I love this boy, man... Mischievous yet sweet and lovely. He reminded me of someone, but just couldn't recall. I think it's one of my Sumber Tani sunday school boy, but couldn't remember who...
It was a joy, yet at the same time sad, seeing how their empty gloomy faces gradually turn to smiles and cheerfulness towards the end of the program. Indeed, they are not only in so much need of physical provision, but also emotional.
They too, long to be loved... They too, are Father's beloved... They too, will one day want to become successful people...
One thing I'm glad, they are in good hands (I hope there're more good caring loving teachers there, coz thruout the show we only saw the principal), and they are learning Chinese!
I do hope one day, I can visit that place...
