So, there's this group, you may have heard of them, called Fall Out Boy. We were at the barrier right in front of Joe Troh's mic on Sunday night. They fuckin' rocked.
dsudis,
textualchauvini and I met at
strangecobweb's house at 1:00 and went out for lunch. While fun, the real point of this endeavor was the all-important carbo-loading to help us make it through to midnight w/o eating (or, it turned out, drinking) anything else. We had a fantastic waitress who joked around w/ us and didn't comment on our attempts to eat an entire cow. Each.
We were back on the road by 2:45PM and messaging back and forth w/
riverlight and
embracepassion, who were already online for general admission. When we arrived there was barely any line at all. We wandered by the buses in search of Riverlight and Embracepassion, and stumbled upon
dexwebster and her sister. Whoo! Round about 4:15 we walked back around the building to get in the early admission line.
I would like to take this moment to state, for the record, early admission rocks my socks. We got in, meandered to the bathroom, and wandered down to the floor with more than enough time to stake out our spots on the barrier. (Well, okay, just in case there wasn't enough time,
textualchauvini went down to hold our spots while the rest of us went to the bathroom, and then switched off. I reclined on the floor to take up as much space as possible, which was apparently greatly amusing to both
dsudis and the security guys who were hanging around.
strangecobwebs and
dsudis were just about to leave for the meet and greet when
riverlight and
embracepassion made it to the floor. We got them up to the barrier to claim the spots
dsudis and
strangecobwebs were abandoning. We spent some quality time chatting up the security guys who were really nice to us. When
riverlight started getting lightheaded, one of the guys went and got her some candy so she didn't have to leave her spot.
Once we stood up, the crowd started getting a little pushy, but everyone around us was really nice. People were checking in with one another - "are you okay? I'm really sorry for bumping into you there" - and generally trying not to be assholes. Yay, crowd for the win!
We entertained ourselves with watching the text messages scroll across the screen. Once again our message 'Help, I'm trapped in Gabe's basement!' failed to make it to the screen. Alas.
Some short comments before the pictures:
Cute is What We Aim For were mostly forgettable. They were fine, but the frontman wasn't terribly charismatic and the music didn't stick for me.
Plain White T's were enjoyable.
Gym Class Heroes kicked ass.
I love you FOB! Here, have my firstborn!
strangecobwebs and
dsudis couldn't make it back to the barrier after meet and greet, but they got surprisingly close. I had
strangecobwebs hand her camera up to me and I took a 'few' pictures. Later it turned out I apparently took around 100? Ahaahahaoops?
I didn't get the camera until just before the GCH set, though, so no pics of Plain White Ts or Cute.
Matt grinned the entire time, I swear. Well, obviously except for the moment I took this picture. *g*
Hi, Travis. HIIII. Please to be taking your clothes off now.
Travis told the parents in the crowd to stand up and then said to the kids: "Look around, you ungrateful fuckers. These are the people that made it possible for you to be here today."
Love the haircut!
HIII, Patrick! HIIIII! You can take your clothes off TOO!
The curtain:
In no particular order:
Hi, Pete!
Joe rocked out like a crazy man. It was awesome.
I had a hard time getting good pics of Patrick, partially because of my angle and partially b/c the crowd was jumping up and down so much, almost all the pictures were blurry. I so wanted one of him standing on tiptoes. <3 So amazingly awesome up close! Alas, it was not to be.
I'll just comfort myself with this picture of Patrick crooning...
Cutest thing ever: Patrick kept going over to Pete periodically, and Pete put his head on Patrick's shoulder. All together now: d'awwww.
HIIII, PATRICK, HIIIII!
Pete got around amazingly well on his cyberfoot.
During the acoustic set:
Crazy-man Joe was awesome to watch, seriously. <3
I tried to get good pics of Andy. Mostly they came out blurry, but there were a couple decent shots:
Joe scaled the riser to hang out w/ Andy at one point.
Blurry Pete:
So, in conclusion, a story. Pete told the crowd at one point, "So I know my band doesn't want me to say this, but there was a dude hiding out here at the venue. I guess his plan was to beat me up or kill me or something, I don't know. And I've been dealing with bullies all of my life, we all have, so my first reaction was 'Fuck YEAH! Meet me at the bike rack!' but then I thought about it and I was like, really? You want to beat up some dude with a broken leg who is maybe 5'2"? Awesome. And I'm telling you this because I know he's here in the crowd tonight. I just wanted to say, way to go, jackass. You just spent 30 dollars to have me make fun of you from this stage." ILU, PETE WENTZ! \0/
It was an amazing concert experience all the way around.
