Ssomething about needing to get a certain amount of work done at work usually keeps me from GM Swim on Monday. This week was no exception. It was supposed to be an off day anyway after Couples..
Tuesday I did a 15 mile ride before work, then splash n dash afterward. We had 150 this time, including
triman and at least half a dozen of my TriZones friends. The swim was fabulous, I even tried out some "speed work" and found that it does indeed allow you to pass! I haven't really experienced passing people on the swim before. But this woman I kept passing was wearing one of those waterproof MP3 players AND AQUASHOES. So she didn't really have any awareness of me swimming near or past her. I swung wide (I thought) on the backside and passed her but it took quite a bit of energy and while I was recovering with breaststroke, there she was again, swimming flailingly. So I decided I'd just go ahead and stay behind her rather than get kicked from those aquashoes. Then I decided to pass her again just before the finish and actually came out of the water ahead of her. Quickly (for me) put on my run shoes and headed out. Michelle was so nice to cheer for me each loop! I really need that cause the run just plain hurts. I survived okay, hung out with everyone afterward, had one slize of pizza and some beer.
Steve had invited me to join him and a former colleague who's in town from SanFran for dinner at
Austin Land & Cattle. Soon as I got there, I thought I should at least wash my hands & face, so headed straight for the ladies room. There were two women in there talking about the weirdest stuff. I hate ladies rooms sometimes. I really don't want to overhear all these personal conversations and one of them was telling about things that CPS does. That really shouldn't be discussed "in public" in my opinion. How did she know I wasn't under investigation or something? oh well. Anyway I found Steve and Dave and sat down with them and who did I see over in the corner but
Rob Balon. I told Steve but it was lost on him. I guess he doesn't watch that news segment.. Who did I see sitting at his table? the two strange women I'd just encountered in the ladies room. I guess he has to have someone come along to test all that food. I had the usual wonderful small filet and was full, but not in pain when we left . Well, not from the food anyway. Sitting on a hard wooden chair for 90 min after all the exercise really took its toll.
Wednesday I was IN PAIN. For real. hurting. I loaded up the bike and run stuff and after work braved the mopac rush hour traffic to meet with TxI women. I really couldn't run at all, so Susan just had me do 4 loops of the bike route. Big deal: 12 miles. yee haw. I spent an hour in traffic with my sciatic nerve screaming at me to ride my bike 12 miles. But I guess part of it was also the electrolyte/hydration/calorie discussion.
Today I saw Lex over at SPI again. He is really good. He pulled on my leg (don't laugh - it really helps) and had me do the painful golfball pickup and told me to come back next week. He has such a nice manner and he really helps me. I just checked and the SnD results are posted and I'm pleased to know that the swim was faster even than last month (no surprise there, the course was at least 50 m shorter and Brandon Marsh told us the previous month was kind of short, too!). So since running hurts SO MUCH right now, I think I'll ride with the cyclpaths this evening and go for a swim tomorrow (tomorrow's supposed to be an off day but I just don't think I can squeeze a swim in today). Tomorrow's MFT PP/U and Sunday is MFT!! YIKES! I can't even think about what the 4.4 mile run is gonna be like...
