Jinx
Meg Cabot
Hardcover: 288 pages
Publisher: Macmillan Children's Books (7 Sep 2007)
Language English
I seem to have developed an addiction to Meg Cabot's books. I really enjoyed this young adult novel with its tales of witchcraft and teenage rivalry and jealousy. It's themes and especially the spring ball scene were very reminiscent of Steven's Kings Carrie although obviously toned down for a younger audience. I did, however, find it an interesting novel and hope she will write more about Jinx and her newly discovered powers of magic.
Book 99/80
Hunting Season
Dean Vincent Carter
Hardcover: 256 pages
Publisher: Bodley Head Children's Books (29 Mar 2007)
Language English
This was an interesting novel, with overtones of Stephen King. Again it was a young adult novel, but the author was not afraid to hold back on the gore. I found that the werewolves were classical in their constructions and it lost points for a schmaltzy ending.

The Fire in the Forging and The Healing in the Vine
Tamora Pierce
Paperback: 192 and 224 pages
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Language English
As I have previously said, Tamora Peirce is a new author I am slowly falling in love with. These books finished the Circle of Magic Quartert and I am now waiting for the Circle of Magic Opens books to arrive in the library for m to read.
These books tell the story of Sandry, Daja, Tris and Briar--four very different characters from very different backgrounds who are joined together by an amazing magical power. Each book in the series has one of these as its main focus, but it also deals with the relationship between them and their teachers and obvioulsy their relationshgips with each other, It is as much a book about friendship as it is a book about magic. Although I borrowed these books from the library I can definately see myself buying them in the near future.
Book 102/83
Angel with Attitude
Michelle Rowen
Mass Market Paperback: 384 pages
Publisher: Little, Brown & Company (3 Aug 2006)
Language English
This was a further funny, witty and off the wall novel from the author of Bitten & Smitten. I love these books not because of their love stories, they are predicatble, but because they make me laugh out loud.
Synopsis
Valerie Grace isn't quite sure how she went from heavenly angel to plunging into the killer whale tank at Niagara Falls' MarineLand, but that's what's happened. All she knows is that earth can be a tough place for a fallen angel, what with all the demon Tempters lurking around every corner, anxious to recruit her to the "other team" - the evil team. All she can do is keep an eye out for the elusive Key to Heaven, try to help people, and hope that somebody up there notices what an angel she is, even if she's not literally one anymore. And try to avoid that really cute tempter, the one with the pale gray eyes and hypnotic smile, the one that makes her forget her own name and the fact that she's supposed to be a good girl

Synopsis
In the last thirty years new technology, fashion, and social set-ups have spawned new cliches galore. Everything on the Internet is available at the 'click of a mouse', TV presenters ask the audience to 'give it up' when they want them to applaud, call centres tell us 'we value your call' even though 'all our operators are busy'. And if you're 'gobsmacked' by all this you may be told to 'get a life', 'chill out' or 'whatever'.It's Not Rocket Science sifts through all aspects of modern life to find the most prevalent, ubiquitous and downright irritating cliches of our age. This high-octane, caffeine-fuelled, dictionary of cliches highlights the freshly-hackneyed phrases we're being subjected to 24/7.So how good is that? And what's not to like?
