Tommy/Merton, and Lori for
amandazillah "I don't know who you think you're fooling."
Tommy gave the laces of his running shoes one final tug before looking up at Lori. She was standing with her feet braced apart, hands fisted on her hips. If her voice hadn’t already been a dead giveaway, her current pose would have told Tommy that she was ready for a fight.
“And I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Tommy said.
“Don’t play dumb with me, Tommy,” Lori said. Her voice softened, and Lori took a step forward, laying her hands on Tommy’s tense shoulders. “You’re going to loose him, if you don’t say anything. We aren’t in high school anymore, and you aren’t the only one who notices Merton these days.”
Tommy swallowed heavily, and looked away from Lori. “It’s not that simple, Lori. I can’t just tell Merton that--”
“Tell me what?” Merton asked from the doorway, lips thinning as Lori and Tommy jumped apart, both flustered.
“That Tommy is an idiot,” Lori said.
“That I’m an idiot,” Tommy said, and so softly as to not be heard: “who is in love with you.”
