Your Fannish History
Back during the OTW elections, there were people on my flist/circle who were discussing the fact that they entered fandom through very different directions than most of the OTW bigwigs. I picked up on many of the Western-based slash BNFs through fannish osmosis, but they were never my BNFs. In this post, 
inkstone discusses a BNF who was important to her fannish experience.
I didn't come into fandom through TV slash fandom, or anime and manga. I felt a little sad reading inkstone's post, honestly!
My entry into fandom was through comics, primarily X-Men. My standard for BNFs was Kielle--not so much for her writing, as for the communities she created. I first wet my feet in fandom through CFAN, untold-l, OTL, Shifting Sands, Lori's X-Men Archive. I remember names like Darqstar, Lori McDonald, Amanda Sichter, Sequoia Sweenes, Dex, Kaylee, Poi Lass, Dr. Benway.
What were your earliest fannish experiences? Who were your BNFs, and the classic fics in your fandoms? What websites/mailing lists/forums did you visit religiously? Did you have to walk uphill both ways--in the snow!--to get your porn?
Indulge me. I'm feeling nostalgic. (Must be the upcoming birthday. Eep!)
