Belmont, Walkout!

Seriously, I always wanted to get out of L.A. I was just bored with what I knew, but sadly, I escaped to another world that was (no offense to the people that live in the valley..) just as worse. But hey, I don't regret anything, the valley has cool people that are just as fun as a day in the carnival. So Belmont High School was suppose to be the school that I was suppose to get my LAUSD education, but instead I ended up at Birmingham High School. (Hey, it's still BHS..) So funny thing...on Monday, I get to be a student at Belmont High School, but in 1968. How? Well, I was an extra for the HBO film, "WALKOUT" which is a film about the 1968 walkouts in Garfield, Belmont, and Lincoln High. Students walkout demanding cival rights as humans and students, all inspired by the civil rights movement in the 60's. I mean, seriously, Latinos don't really have films in Hollywood, and if we do, of course we are constantly portrayed in the same way...as the thief, the killer, or the maid. It's awesome to see how a big movie is made, with a big budget and all, and it feels cool to be treated as if your a star, even though your just an extra: makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe always making sure you look 60's out. But damn, I couldn't even walk with those high heals after awhile, they were killing my feet!

This past week was always a week that I got in touch with my inner child that is still pretty much alive. Harry Potter came out and boy did I cry... Seriously, I never thought books could make you cry. I remember the first time I cry so hard was JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN, by Dalton Trumbo. Yea, so sadly I admit that I cried again, in a Harry Potter book. Those books slowly shift from being kids books to a more mature audience. I was even surprised at the use of the word "slut" in there, it makes me realize that the books change as the characters grow older. Ah, and the awaited Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!, Yeah, I loved it so much. I seriously thought I was going to die when I saw the trailer and I thought I wasn't going to be able to stand Johnny's voice. Wow, but not only could I stand his voice, but I could stand his good looks and damn...! he is just so damn hot!!! I have no complaints about this movie whatsoever, I love both versions for what they are. One thing for sure, I loved the new Charlie, I think this kid is more innocent and more sweeter than Charlie in Willy Wonka. So people...go see it!!
