so this is what I've been doing all year

these are the pages from the mock ups of the book I'm making. it's from 2 different mock ups, hence the different paper, and also a few prints on their own.

I've included the artist statement, it's a bit of a wank but it might make it all make more sense

this is how you make me feel...

WORK IN PROGRESS

this is how you make me feel...is a series documenting experiences that have stuck in my mind,
both past and present, which I feel are best articulated using a
combination of images and text.

I am using the authenticity of biography to examine and exhibit what it is to be a young woman
with an invisible defect in contemporary society. I am asking you to re-evaluate these images
of seemingly normal subjects as I am asking you to re-evaluate a seemingly normal me
and see a story of greater depth lying beneath.

This series of images is both a present and retrospective journal.
These works mirror both past and present occurrences.
Showing the present being effected by, and copying,
the past mimics the way this defect effects me.

I have used Duane Michals' publications The Nature of Desire and Questions Without Answers
as examples of how to successfully use text with images as. As in Michals' work,
the text is an extension of my images rather than just titling them.

I find great comfort in the work of William Eggleston, his images being my bedtime stories for some weeks now.
I feel the similarities in subject matter serve as a solace and a driving force; I feel I am in good
company following paths which have been confidently walked well before I arrived.

As well as the artist stated above I have been looking at artist books and zines in general to find
inspiration and guidance in terms of layout and style as well as technical
aspects such as binding.

I feel I have evolved my concept to its peak, having gone as far as finalising the rest of the text
to be used with future images, and now I can focus entirely on polishing the images and
organising them into a finished book.

This series will include seven chapters in total. I have chosen the number seven because of its
significance in my life as I am completing this work seven years after I became sick.

I plan on producing a high-quality copy of this book for the first year exhibition as well as two to
three hundred lower-quality copies to be distributed wherever I can mail them as well as a
website for finders of the book to comment on.

on some of these the scan of the ink are a bit light/some images aren't on pages so i've put the titles below them as well
