I remember the first thing I volunteered at I came to the same conclusion you did - never again will I get annoyed when a volunteer doesn't have a clue because they tell you nothing! I've volunteered at several things and generally nobody knows what the hell is going on. You sort of just have to decide how to handle stuff and take charge.
